HEALTH EFFECTS
The oral LD

for rats for pure Chlortetracycline is >3000
mg/kg. This is equivalent to >250 000 mg/kg of this
compound which means it is not classified as hazardous.
Exposure to high levels of Chlortetracycline may cause
mucous
membrane
irritation
(inflammation),
hepatic
system
effects
(elevated
liver
enzyme
levels
and
jaundice),
gastrointestinal
effects
(nausea,
vomiting,
diarrhoea, constipation, cramps and loss of appetite),
renal
system
effects
(urine
retention,
changed
urine
production, painful urination, blood in urine).
