COMPOSITION
Norfloxacin USP 200 mg/ml
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Norfloxacin has potent antimicrobial activities against many
pathogens, including_ E. coli_,
_Staphylococcus_ spp., _Pseudomonas aeruginosa_ and _Mycoplasma
gallisepticum_. Norfloxacin is well
absorbed orally. Peak serum concentrations are reached 20 minutes
post-dosing, with an elimination t
1/2
of 12 hours and a bioavailability of 57%. Norfloxacin tends to
penetrate the tissues rather slowly,
with peak concentrations appearing 8 hours after dosing for all
tissues except fat, where peak
concentrations are reached at 24 hours after the oral dose.
Norfloxacin is metabolized by the liver and
excreted primarily in the urine. The elimination t
1/2
for a single IV dose is approximately 8 hours.
INDICATIONS
Turkeys, broilers, broiler breeders and replacement chickens: ANFLOX
GOLD is indicated for diseases
of the respiratory and alimentary tract that are of bacterial and
mycoplasmal origin, e.g. pasteurellosis,
coli-bacilliosis, coli-septicaemia and salmonellosis.
Crustaceans: ANFLOX GOLD is indicated for the treatment of infections
caused by vibrio, i.e. _V. _
_parahaemolyticus_, _V. alginolyticus_, _V. anguillarum_, _V.
herveyi_, also _Pseudomonas_ spp., _Aeromonas_
spp., and mycoplasmas.
Where possible, use sensitivity testing to confirm ANFLOX GOLD as
product of choice.
CONTRA-INDICATIONS
Hypersensitivity to norfloxacin and other quinolone group antibiotics
is contra-indicated.
DOSAGE AND MODE OF ADMINISTRATION
Poultry:
Anflox Gold is administered via the drinking water. Medicated water
should be made up immediately
prior to provision. Medicated water should be supplied continuously
throughout the treatment period
and no other water should be made available. The dosage rate is 12 mg
norfloxacin per kg b.w. for 3-5
days: under normal circumstances this equates to a dose of 25 ml
ANFLOX GOLD per 100 litres of
drinking water.
Crustaceans:
