EMERGENCY TREATMENT OF SEVERE 
ALLERGIC 
REACTIONS 
OR 
ANAPHYLAXIS CAUSED BY PEANUTS, 
OTHER FOODS, DRUGS, LATEX, INSECT 
BITES OR STINGS OR OTHER 
ALLERGENS. Your doctor or 
pharmacist will explain what this 
is like, so that you know when 
you must use Anapen. 
Anapen is a life-saving treatment 
in the emergency management of 
severe allergic reactions. 
Therefore,  IT SHOULD NOT BE 
WITHHELD FROM ANYONE WHO IS 
CONSIDERED TO NEED IT. 
AVOIDING  KNOWN ALLERGENS IS 
MOST IMPORTANT IN _PREVENTING_ 
SEVERE ALLERGIC REACTIONS. 
A severe allergic reaction is 
overwhelming and life-
threatening.  Symptoms vary and 
are likely to include: 
• Collapse 
• Difficulty in breathing 
• Wheezing 
• Swelling, especially of the 
face, lips, tongue

It is a white odourless crystalline powder, soluble in
solutions of mineral acids and 
alkalis.

  150  are auto-injector devices that 
provide adrenaline for intramuscular injection. Anapen
® 
500,  Anapen
®
  300  and 
Anapen® 150 contain 1 mL Adrenaline
Injection 1:600 USP, 1:1000 USP and 1:2000 
USP, respectively, and are designed to deliver a single 0.3 mL
dose of 500 µg, 300 µg 
or 150 µg adrenaline.  

Each 0.3 mL of solution in Anapen
® 
500 contains:  
ACTIVE; 500
µg adrenaline, INACTIVE;  1.8 mg sodium chloride, 510 µg
sodium 
metabisulfite, hydrochloric acid to
adjust pH and water for injections to 0.3 mL.  

Each 0.3 mL of solution in Anapen

 300 contains:  
ACTIVE; 300 µg
adrenaline, INACTIVE; 1.8 mg sodium chloride, 510 µg sodium

PHARMACOLOGY 
Adrenaline is a sympathomimetic compound, acting on both α and β receptors. The 
major  effects are increased systolic blood pressure, reduced
diastolic pressure, 
hyperglycaemia, tachycardia, and hypokala
