Section 4 – First Aid Measures

If you suspect that you have been poisoned or irritated by this product, you should call the Poisons Information Centre on 131 126

(in Australia ) or 0800 764 766 ( in NZ ). Make sure you have this MSDS available when you call.

Ingestion;

If swallowed, DO NOT induce vomiting. Wash mouth with water and contact a doctor or a Poisons

Information Centre.

Eye contact;

Flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids.

Seek medical attention immediately.

Skin contact;

Remove contaminated clothing and wash with water. If irritation occurs, or in doubt obtain medical

advice.

Inhaled;

Remove from exposure and get to fresh air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If

breathing is difficult, give oxygen and seek medical attention or contact a Poisons Information Centre.

Advice to doctor;

Treat symptomatically and as for exposure to benzalkonium chloride and copper sulphate.

Section 5 – Fire Fighting Measures

Fire / Explosion;

Material is stable under normal circumstances and does not pose an explosion risk if involved in a fire.

Avoid high temperatures and incompatible materials.

Fire fighting;

Incompatible with acetylene gas, aluminium powder, hydroxylamine, and magnesium.

Hazardous polymerisation has not been reported.

Hazardous decomposition products include oxides of sulphur and oxides of copper. Fire fighters should

wear full protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus.

Extinguishing media;

Use media appropriate to surrounding fire conditions, water fog, foam, dry agents.

Section 6 – Accidental Release Measures

In the event of spills try to contain spill with sand, earth or vermiculite. Prevent liquid from entering drains, sewers and waterways.

Wear protective clothing , including impervious shoes, PVC gloves and goggles. Dispose of the absorbed spill in metal or polyethylene

containers in accordance with local, State or Federal regulations at an approved waste disposal facility or land fill. Avoid generating

dusts, vacuum up where possible. With large spills notify local council or emergency services.

Section 7 – Handling And Storage

Handling;

Ensure personal protective controls ( Section 8) are worn when handling, keep exposure to a minimum.

Keep away from incompatible materials mentioned in Section 10 to avoid contact. As this is a Schedule

5 poison, adhere to any appropriate state / federal regulations regarding handling, storage and

transport. Wash hands thoroughly after use, before eating, drinking, smoking or using the toilet.

Storage;

Store in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight and heat in original containers. Minimise dust

generation and accumulation. Keep in original containers with lids firmly sealed, check regularly for

spills ( this product is mildly corrosive ). As this is a Schedule 5 poison, adhere to any appropriate state

/ federal regulations regarding handling, storage and transport.

It is usually safe to use this product without a respirator, but if you are in any doubt, refer to

AS/NZS 1715 for appropriate equipment.

Health effects – acute;

Eyes; May cause eye irritation, conjunctivitis, ulceration or corneal abnormalities.

Swallowed; May cause severe digestive tract irritation and abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and

diarrhea, haemorrhaging of the digestive tract, irritation of the mouth, jaundice, kidney failure, muscle

weakness, loss of consciousness.

Skin; May cause skin irritation.

Inhalation; May cause respiratory tract irritation, ulceration and perforation of the nasal septum if

inhaled in excessive quantities.

Health effects – chronic;

Prolonged/repeated skin contact may cause dermatitis. Prolonged/repeated eye contact may cause

conjunctivitis. May cause kidney and liver damage. This substance has caused adverse reproductive and

foetal effects in animals. Target organs – Kidneys and liver.

Summary;

It should be noted that these possible effects are based on the active ingredients themselves, as

opposed to the soluble mixture. For example, the inhalation effects from the soluble mixture will be

vastly different to inhaling the dust from Copper Sulphate powder.

Section 12 – Ecological Information

This product is harmful to marine and aquatic organisms, it may accumulate in soil and water, and is not considered biodegradable.

Ensure that all spills are contained and recovered into suitable containers for disposal.

Section 13 – Disposal Considerations

The product should be disposed of in accordance with state or local government waste management regulations. The containers

themselves should be recycled wherever possible.

Section 14 – Transport Information

This product is not classified ADG ( Australian Dangerous Goods ) , there are no special transport conditions unless specified by
