WHAT TAGUAR IS USED FOR
•
treat
high
blood
pressure
(hypertension)
•
treat chronic heart failure (when the
heart
is
not
strong
enough
to
work
correctly)
•
treat
a
heart
attack
(myocardial
infarction)
•
Diabetic
nephropathy
-
treat
kidney
disease in patients with type I diabetes
(diabetes that often requires injections
of insulin).
HOW TAGUAR WORKS
Taguar belongs to a group of medicines
known
as
Angiotensin
Converting
Enzyme
(ACE)
inhibitors.
These
medicines are used to treat hypertension
(high blood pressure).
BEFORE YOU USE TAGUAR
_When you must not take it _
Do not take Taguar if you:

•
allergic (hypersensitive) to captopril or
to
any
of
the
other
ingredients
of
Taguar
•
allergic (hypersensitive) to any other
ACE inhibitor (medicines of the same
type as Taguar
•
have
developed
angioedema
(allergic
reaction
with
symptoms
such
as
swelling of the face, tongue or throat,
difficulty
swallowing,
hives
and
difficulty
breathing)
during
previous
treatment with an ACE inhibitor
•
have
diabetes
or
impaired
kidney
function
and
you
are
treated
with
a
blood
pressure
lowering
medicine
containing aliskiren.
•
have
hereditary
(inherited)
or
idiopathic
(with
no
known
cause)
angioedema. Angioedema is a swelling
of the skin of the face, limbs, tongue or
throat
•
more than 3 months pregnant
•
Breast-feeding

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
_CAPTOPRIL TABLETS 12.5 MG _
White, round, flat tablets, scored on one side and plain on the other
side with diameter about 6 mm.
_CAPTOPRIL TABLETS 25 MG _
White, round, flat tablets, scored on one side and plain on the other
side with diameter about 8 mm.
PHARMACODYNAMICS
ACTIONS
The exact mechanism of action of captopril has not been fully
elucidated. However, it is thought to
suppress the rennin-angiotensin-aldosterone
system, hence resulting in decreased
serum
concentrations of angiotensin II and aldosterone.
PHARMACOKINETICS
Captopril is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after
oral administration. Peak plasma
concentrations occur at about 1 hour. The presence of food reduces
absorption by about 30 – 40%.
Approximately 25 – 30% of the circulating drug is bound to plasma
proteins. Captopril is eliminated
primarily in the urine (>95%); 40 – 50% is unchanged drug and the
remainder are metabolites
(disulphide dimmer of captopril and captopril-cysteine disulphide).
The apparent elimination half-
life in blood is probably < 3 hours.
INDICATIONS
Hypertension; congestive heart failure; following myocardial; diabetic
nephropathy in insulin-
dependent diabetes.
RECOMMENDED DOSE
Dosage should be adjusted to meet the individual requirements on the
basis of clinical response. As
food intake reduces bioavailability, Captopril should be taken one
hour before meals.
Hypertension
Before Captopril therapy is initiated, consideration should be given
to recent antihypertensive drug
therapy, the extent of blood pressure elevation, salt restriction and
other clinical circumstances. If
possible, discontinue the patient's previous antihypertensive drug
regiment for one week before
starting Captopril.
The initial dose of Captopril is 12.5 mg two or three times a day. The
dosage may be increased, if
necessary, to achieve a satisfactory blood pr
