Fachinformation

                                Each 5ml contains:
Promethazine HCl 10mg
PHARMACOLOGY:
Promethazine hydrochloride, a phenothiazine derivative, possesses
anti-histamine, sedative, anti-motion
sickness, anti-emetic and anti-cholinergic effects. The duration of
action is generally from four to six hours.
The major side reaction of this drug is sedation. As an anti-histamine
it acts by competitive antagonism, but
does not block the release of histamine. It antagonises in varying
degree most but not all of the
pharmacological effects of histamine.
It is readily absorbed from the gastro-intestinal tract. Following
oral administration the effects start within 15
to 20 minutes and are fully developed within one hour. The highest
concentration occurs in the lungs,
progressively lower concentration in the spleen, kidney, brain, muscle
and skin. Small amounts of the drug is
excreted unchanged, most appears as degradation products that are
almost completely excreted within 24
hours. The main site of metabolic transformation is the liver but the
lung and kidneys can also metabolise the
compound.
INDICATIONS:
In addition to its antihistaminic action, which is of marked potency
and prolonged duration, it also provides
antiemetic as well as sedative actions.
Promethazine HCl is useful in the management of the following
