WHAT GLYCOFOR TABLETS ARE 2. WHAT GLYCOFOR TABLETS ARE USED FOR The name of your medicine is Glycofor tablets. Glycofor tablets belong to group of medicines called oral antidiabetics. These medicines work by redu- cing the level of sugar in the blood. Glycofor tablets are used for the treatment of a type of diabetes which usu- ally only occurs in adults and is not normally severe enough to need insu- lin. For some patients Glycofor may be used in combinations with insulin or other anti-diabetic tablets called sulphonylureas. Glycofor alone is not suit- able for those patients for whom sulphonylurea therapy has failed. Patients with serious acute illnesses, including diabetic coma and pre-coma, should normally be treated with insulin rather than metformin. TURN OVER TAKING OTHER MEDICINES You should not drink alcohol whilst you are taking Glycofor tablets. Other drugs, including some you can buy without prescription, may interact with these tablets. If you are taking or intend to take any other medicine during treatment with Glycofor, check with your doctor or pharmacist that it is safe to do so. This is particularly important in the case of aspirin or other non-ste- roidal treatments for pain and inflammation.
