Spiramycin is effective against aerobic and anaerobic Gram-positive bacteria such as _Staphylococcus_ spp., _Streptococcus_ spp., _Clostridium_ spp. and also inhibits _Corynebacterium_ spp., _Rickettsia_ spp., and _Mycoplasma_ spp. Spiramycin concentrates in tissues (bone, including alveolar bone, lung, spleen) and secretions (especially saliva). Metronidazole inhibits many protozoa and Gram-positive and Gram-negative anaerobic bacteria. Spiramycin and metronidazole possess synergistic properties. Because of its spectrum of activity and propensity for concentration in oral tissues, STOMORGYL is particularly active against infections causing oral or dental disease in dogs. . DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION Administration is by the oral route. Dogs: 1 tablet per 20 kg bodyweight (23.4 mg spiramycin and 12.5 mg metronidazole/kg bodyweight) daily for 5-10 days, depending on the severity of infection. The daily dose may be divided into 2-3 treatments. The dose may be doubled in chronic conditions. STOMORGYL 2 (ACVM No. A006397), dose rate 1 tablet per 2 kg, and STOMORGYL 10 (ACVM No. A005098), dose rate 1 tablet per 10 kg, are suitable for the treatment of small dogs and cats. CONTRAINDICATIONS STOMORGYL is well tolerated and there are no contraindications at recommended dosages.
