Critically Important Antibiotic
For treatment of infections caused by susceptible aerobic and
anaerobic bacteria
Each tablet contains:
Spiramycin
46.9 mg (equivalent to 150,000 IU at standard potency of 3,200 IU/mg)
Metronidazole
25 mg

INDICATIONS
The treatment of infections caused by susceptible aerobic and
anaerobic bacteria in dogs and
cats.
Spiramycin is effective against aerobic and anaerobic Gram-positive
bacteria, such as
_Staphylococcus_ spp., _Streptococcus_ spp., _Clostridium_ spp. and
also inhibits _Corynebacterium_
spp., _Rickettsia_ spp., and _Mycoplasma_ spp. Spiramycin concentrates
in tissues (bone,
including alveolar bone, lung, spleen) and secretions (especially
saliva).
Metronidazole inhibits many protozoa and Gram-positive and
Gram-negative anaerobic
bacteria.
Spiramycin and metronidazole possess synergistic properties.
Because of its spectrum of activity and propensity for concentration
in oral tissues,
STOMORGYL is particularly active against infections causing oral or
dental disease in dogs
and cats.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Administration is by the oral route.
Dogs and cats: 1 tablet per 2 kg bodyweight (23.4 mg spiramycin and
12.5 mg
metronidazole/kg bodyweight) daily for 5-10 days, depending on the
severity of infection.
The daily dose may be divided into 2-3 treatments.
The dose may be doubled in chronic conditions.
STOMORGYL 10 (ACVM No. A005098), dose rate 1 tablet per 10 kg, is
suitable for
treatment of larger dogs.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
STOMORGYL is well tolerated and there are no contraindications at
recommended dosages.
Extended courses should be prescribed with caution in animals with
compromised hepatic or
renal functions.
