This leaflet contains a summary of the information about 
your medicine, Flutamide Tablets 250 mg.
YOUR MEDICINE
Your medicine is in the form of a tablet. Each tablet 
contains 250 mg of the active ingredient Flutamide.  
Each tablet also contains microcrystalline cellulose, 
lactose, maize starch, sodium lauryl sulphate, silica and 
magnesium stearate. Flutamide Tablets 250 mg are 
available in blister packs of 84 tablets. Your pharmacist 
will dispense the number of tablets prescribed by your 
doctor.

WHY DO YOU NEED TO TAKE YOUR MEDICINE ?
Your tablet contains Flutamide, which belongs to a group of medicines called 
anti-androgens. Flutamide blocks the effect of testosterone in the body. This 
effect can help to treat cancer of the prostate. Flutamide is usually taken with 
another medicine that decreases the levels of testosterone, or after castration.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO BEFORE TAKING YOUR MEDICINE ?
YOU MUST TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE TAKING YOUR MEDICINE IF:
• you have taken a medicine containing Flutamide before and suffered an
   unusual or allergic reaction to it
• you have heart disease
• you have been told that your liver or kidneys do not work properly 
• you are taking Warfarin (to "thin" the blood)
• you are already taking any other medicine.
This product contains lactose. If you have been told by your doctor that you are 
intolerant to some sugars, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
If you are already taking any other medicine tell your doctor or pharmacist.

CLINICAL PARTICULARS 

4.1. THERAPEUTIC 
INDICATIONS 

Flutamide Tablets 250mg are indicated for the treatment of advanced
prostatic carcinoma in 
which suppression of testosterone effects is indicated.  Flutamide
Tablets 250mg may be 
used in combination with an LHRH agonist, both on commencement
of treatment or as an 
adjunctive therapy in patients already receiving an
LHRH agonist. Flutamide Tablets 250mg 
may also be used in surgically castrated patients. 

4.2. 
POSOLOGY AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION 

Adults and the Elderly: One tablet three times daily. 
The tablets are to be taken preferably 
after meals.  When Flutamide tablets are
used as initial treatment with an LHRH agonist, a 
reduction in severity of the flare reaction may be achieved if
treatment with Flutamide is 
initiated before the LHRH agonist.  Consequently, it is recommended
that treatment with 
Flutamide should commence at least three days before the
LHRH agonist. 

In patients with impaired liver function,
long-term treatment with Flutamide should only be 
initiated after careful assessment of the individual benefits and
risks. 

Flutamide 250 mg tablets should be administered with caution in
patients with impaired 
renal function. 

4.3. CONTRA-INDICATIONS 

Flutamide Tablets 250mg are contraindicated in patients with known
hypersensitivity to any 
of their components.
