Manufacturer and Product Registration Holder 10. Date of revision WHAT ZMOX IS USED FOR Zmox is used to treat a wide range of infections in the body caused by bacteria. These infections may affect the • chest (bronchitis or pneumonia) • bladder (cystitis) • sinuses (sinusitis) • the ears (otitis media) • skin, soft tissues and joints • dental infections • urogenital and gynaecologic infections HOW ZMOX WORKS Zmox is an antibiotic and works by killing bacteria that cause infections. Zmox belongs to a group of medicines called “penicillins”. BEFORE YOU USE ZMOX - _When you must not use it_ Do not take Zmox if you: • are allergic (hypersensitive) to amoxicillin, penicillin or any other ingredients of amoxicillin • have ever had allergic (hypersensitive) reaction to any antibiotic. This can include skin rash or swelling of the face or neck. • have severe gastro-intestinal infections with persistent diarrhea or vomiting due to risk of reduced absorption. • are individuals with allergic rashes or bronchial asthma and hay fever. _- Before you start use it _ Tell your doctor if you have any of the following: • kidney disease: your doctor may have to adjust the dose • Leukemia: you may have a higher risk of skin reactions • Fits (epilepsy): you may have a higher risk of seizures (fits) _Pregnancy and breast-feeding _ Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if • You are pregnant, might become pregnant or think you may be pregnant • You are breast-feeding or planning to breast feed. Each capsule contains: Amoxicillin Trihydrate equivalent to Amoxicillin 250mg. _Z MOX 500 MG CAPSULES_ Orange/Orange, size ‘0EL’ hard gelatin unprinted capsules, filled with white to off white granular powder. PHARMACODYNAMICS Amoxicillin is highly potent, broad-specturm penicillin with a particularly rapid once and a broad spectrum of action. Like other penicillin, it acts by inhibiting cell wall synthesis. Thanks to its broad action spectrum, it is active against both gram-positive and gramnegative micro-organisms. Clinically relevant gram-negative pathogen covered by amoxicillin are Escherichia coli, Proteus mirobilis, Salmonella, Shigella, Campylobacter, Hemophilus influenza, Bordetella pertussis as well as Leptospira and Chlamydia.
