If you have any further questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist. 2. WHAT IS WATER FOR INJECTIONS USED FOR? Water for Injections is sterile water used to dissolve or dilute other medicines when preparing water soluble injections. 3. BEFORE YOU ARE GIVEN WATER FOR INJECTIONS _ _ _WHEN YOU MUST NOT USE IT _ Only to be used if solution is clear, colourless and the container and its closure or packaging are undamaged. Do not use Water for injections after the expiry date which is stated on the container and the outer carton after "EXP". The expiry date refers to the last day of the month. Water for injections must not be injected unless it has been used to dissolve or dilute other drugs or medicines to be administered by your doctor or healthcare professional. The product information of the drug/medicine to be dissolved or diluted must be consulted If you use too much Water for injections, then any water and electrolyte imbalances must be corrected by the treating physician. This will be done in accordance with the type and magnitude of the imbalance. If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor or pharmacist. _TAKING OR USING OTHER MEDICINES _ Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription. Page 1 of 3 PRODUCT INFORMATION WATER FOR INJECTIONS NAME OF THE MEDICINE Water for injections Structural formula: Molecular Formula: H 2 O Molecular Weight: 18.02 CAS Number: 7732-18-5 DESCRIPTION The chemical name for water is hydrogen oxide. Water for injections is a sterile, non-isotonic, clear, colourless solution. It does not contain any preservatives. INDICATIONS Water for injections is used for the reconstitution and preparation of aqueous injections. PRECAUTIONS Consult the Product Information document for the substance, drug or preparation to be dissolved or diluted, to ensure that Water for injections is the recommended solvent or diluent before dissolving or diluting any substance or preparation. Prior to using Water for injections to dissolve or dilute any substances or preparations, check the compatibility of all additives and drugs. Water for injections is strongly hypotonic. It must not be injected alone as it will cause haemolysis and hypotonic disorders. Ensure that the solution prepared with Water for injections is isotonic with blood before intravenous administration. USE IN PREGNANCY: Water for injections has been administered to a large number of pregnant women and women of childbearing age without any proven increase in the frequency of malformations or other direct or indirect harmful effects on the fetus having been observed. Check the Product Information document of the drug to be dissolved or diluted to ensure that it is safe to use during pregnancy. ADVERSE EFFECTS No adverse reactions are known to be associated with Water for injections.
