PATIENT INFORMATION LEAFLET PETHIDINE INJECTION BP 5% W/V 50MG IN 1ML AND 100MG IN 2ML This leaflet is a summary of the information known about your medication. You should ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure about any aspect of your medication. WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT PETHIDINE INJECTION BP 5% W/V Pethidine Injection BP 50% w/v is a sterile solution of 5% w/v Pethidine Hydrochloride in Water for Injections. It may also contain Sodium Hydroxide. The injection is supplied in glass ampoules containing 1 or 2ml. The ampoules are supplied to your pharmacist or doctor in packs of 10 ampoules. Pethidine is a synthetic opiate. A group of medicines used to relieve moderate to severe pain. Licence holder and manufacturer: Martindale Pharmaceuticals Bampton Road, Romford, RM3 8UG England. Uses For the relief of moderate to severe pain including during childbirth and before or during surgical operations. Warnings Tell your doctor before taking this medication if: âĸ You have kidney or liver or biliary problems (affecting the gall bladder or bile duct system) any breathing difficulty, suffer from alcoholism or any convulsive disorder (e.g. epilepsy) or have been diagnosed as suffering from Addisonâs disease or an enlarged prostate gland âĸ You suffer from severe headaches as these may be caused by increased pressure within the skull âĸ You have suffered a head injury, thyroid deficiency (an underactive thyroid gland) or have a rapid heartbeat âĸ You are pregnant or breast feeding âĸ You are affected by pethidine, any other ingredients in the product âĸ You suffer from a tumour in your kidney âĸ You suffer from inflammatory bowel disease or have a blockage in your bowel âĸ You have diabetic ketoacidosis âĸ You have low blood pressure Pethidine should not be given to an unconscious patient. Pethidine will enhance the side effects of drugs that have similar actions.
