It does not contain all of the available information. It does not take the place of talking to your doctor or pharmacist. All medicines have benefits and risks. Your doctor has weighed the risks of you taking LEXAM against the benefits they expect it will have for you. TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST IF YOU HAVE ANY CONCERNS ABOUT TAKING THIS MEDICINE. Keep this leaflet with your medicine. You may need to read it again. WHAT LEXAM IS USED FOR LEXAM is used to treat depression. It belongs to a group of medicines called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). These medicines work by their action on brain chemicals called amines which are involved in controlling mood. Depression is longer lasting and/or more severe than the "low moods" everyone has from time to time due to the stress of everyday life. It is thought to be caused by a chemical imbalance in parts of the brain. This imbalance affects your whole body and can cause emotional and physical symptoms like feeling low in spirit, loss of interest in activities, being unable to enjoy life, poor appetite or overeating, disturbed sleep, often waking up early, loss of sex drive, lack of energy and feeling guilty over nothing. LEXAM corrects this chemical imbalance and may help relieve the symptoms of depression. Your doctor may have prescribed this medicine for another reason. Ask your doctor if you have any questions about why it has been prescribed for you. LEXAM is available only with a doctor's prescription. There is no evidence that this সম্পূর্ণ নথি পড়ুন
LEXAM- Product Information Page 1 of 18 Lexam PRODUCT INFORMATION NAME OF THE MEDICINE Escitalopram oxalate. The chemical name for escitalopram oxalate is S(+)-1-(3- dimethylaminopropyl)-1-(4’-fluorophenyl)-1,3-dihydroisobenzofuran-5-carbonitrile hydrogen oxalate. Its structural formula is: C 20 H 21 FN 2 O. C 2 H 2 O 4 Molecular weight: 414.42 CAS No.: 219861-08-2 DESCRIPTION Escitalopram is the active enantiomer (S-enantiomer) of citalopram. Escitalopram oxalate is a fine white to yellow, crystalline material. It is sparingly soluble in water, slightly soluble in acetone, soluble in ethanol and freely soluble in methanol. No polymorphic forms have been detected. Lexam tablets come in two strengths and contain either 10 mg or 20 mg of escitalopram (as oxalate). The tablets also contain the following excipients: microcrystalline cellulose, colloidal anhydrous silica, purified talc, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate and Opadry II 85F18378 White (ARTG No.12135). The tablets are gluten free. PHARMACOLOGY PHARMACODYNAMICS Biochemical and behavioural studies have shown that escitalopram is a potent inhibitor of serotonin (5HT) uptake ( in vitro IC 50 2 nanomolar). The antidepressant action of escitalopram is presumably linked to the potentiation of serotonergic activity in the central nervous system (CNS) resulting from its inhibitory effect on the reuptake of 5HT from the synaptic cleft. Escitalopram is a highly selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). On the basis of in vitro studies, escitalopram had no or minimal effect on noradrenaline (NA), dopam সম্পূর্ণ নথি পড়ুন
