WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR Apo-Amoxi contains the active ingredient amoxicillin (as trihydrate), which is an antibiotic that belongs to a group of medicines called penicillins. These medicines work by killing the bacteria that are causing the infection. Amoxicillin is used to treat infections in different parts of the body caused by bacteria. Amoxicillin can also be used to prevent endocarditis (heart infection) in some people. Amoxicillin will not work against infections caused by viruses such as colds or flu. ASK YOUR DOCTOR IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT WHY THIS MEDICINE HAS BEEN PRESCRIBED FOR YOU. Your doctor may have prescribed amoxicillin for another reason. This medicine is available only with a doctor's prescription. There is no evidence that this medicine is addictive. _USE IN CHILDREN _ Amoxicillin Suspension is a more suitable form of amoxicillin than capsules, for giving to children. QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE COMPOSITION Each capsule contains amoxicillin trihydrate equivalent to 250mg of amoxicillin, and typically weighs 376mg. Each capsule contains amoxicillin trihydrate equivalent to 500mg of amoxicillin, and typically weighs 735mg. For the full list of excipients, see section 6.1. 3. PHARMACEUTICAL FORM APO-AMOXI 250mg capsules are red and gold (size 2 capsules), imprinted 'APO 250'. APO-AMOXI 500mg capsules are red and gold (size 0 capsules), imprinted 'APO 500'. 4. CLINICAL PARTICULARS 4.1 THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS TREATMENT OF INFECTION APO-AMOXI is indicated in the treatment of infections due to susceptible organisms. APO-AMOXI may be useful in instituting therapy prior to bacteriology; however bacteriological studies to determine the causative organisms and their sensitivity to amoxicillin should be performed. PROPHYLAXIS FOR ENDOCARDITIS APO-AMOXI may be used for the prevention of bacteraemia, associated with procedures such as dental extraction, in patients at risk of developing bacterial endocarditis. 4.2 DOSE AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION This product is not able to deliver all approved dose regimens. _UPPER RESPIRATORY TRACT INFECTIONS, GENITO-URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS, SKIN AND SOFT TISSUE _ _INFECTIONS _ For upper respiratory tract infections due to streptococci, pneumococci, non-penicillinase- producing staphylococci and _H. _ _influenzae_) or Genito-Urinary Tract Infections (due to _Escherichia coli_, _ Proteus mirabilis _ and _ Streptococcus faecalis _ or Skin and Soft Tissue Infections due to streptococci, sensitive staphylococci and _Escherichia coli_: Adults: 250 mg every 8 hours.
