Your blood pressure may be different at different times of the day, depending on how busy or worried you are. You have hypertension (high blood pressure) when your blood pressure stays higher than is needed, even when you are calm and relaxed. There are usually no symptoms of hypertension. Following oral administration, enalapril is rapidly absorbed and then hydrolysed to enalaprilat, which is a specific, long-acting, angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor. DESCRIPTION AMPRACE tablets contain the maleate salt of enalapril, the ethyl ester of the parent diacid, enalaprilat. Enalapril maleate is chemically described as (S)-1-[N-[1-(ethoxycarbonyl)-3-phenylpropyl]-L-alanyl]-L-proline, (Z)-2-butenedioate salt (1:1). It lacks a sulphydryl group. Its empirical formula is C20 H28 N2 O5.C4 H4 O4, and its structural formula is: CHCOOH CHCOOH N COOH CO NHCH CH 3 CH 2 CH 2 CH COOCH 2 CH 3 Enalapril maleate is a white to off-white crystalline powder with a molecular weight of 492.53. It is sparingly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, and freely soluble in methanol and dimethylformamide. AMPRACE Tablets (10 mg and 20 mg) contain the following excipients; sodium bicarbonate, lactose, starch-maize, starch-pregelatinised maize, magnesium stearate.
