Use only the Sterile Diluent
supplied with the product
to reconstitute the
vaccine.
Store diluent
at
room temperature.
Avoid freezing or excessive
temperature of 40
°
C or above.
Wear protective clothing and equipment when withdrawing the vaccine
from
the Liquid Nitrogen flask,
protect
hands with gloves,
wear
long sleeves,
overalls, closed in footwear, and use a face mask or goggles.
Prior to removing the vaccine ampoule from the liquid nitrogen flask
prepare
a water bath to thaw the vaccine.
A container capable of holding 5 litres of
warm water at 27
°
C is ideal.
When withdrawing a cane of
ampoules from the liquid nitrogen flask,
avoid
exposing ampoules to the air for any length of
time.
Remove an ampoule
from the cane by holding palm of the glove over the ampoule and unclip
by
holding away from face and body.
Reconstitute only one ampoule at
a
time.
Immediately replace cane with remaining ampoules back into the flask
of Liquid Nitrogen.
Place the ampoule in the water
bath.
The frozen vaccine virus will
thaw
quickly. Once thawed towel
dry the ampoule.
Once the ampoule content is
thawed it
should be reconstituted immediately as any delay will
cause loss
of potency.
Once thawed the vaccine concentrate cannot be frozen again.
Wrap the ampoule in towel
and holding away from the face and body snap
the top off.
Immediately after thawing,
transfer the contents of
the vaccine ampoule to
the diluent.
A syringe fitted with a needle may be used to draw up the
vaccine and inject it into the diluent bottle.
Use the reconstituted vaccine to
rinse the vaccine ampoule,
injecting the rinses back into the reconstituted
vaccine.
Gently agitate the diluent bottle to mix the vaccine.
While vaccinating,
the vaccine must
be held at
no more than 27
°
C,
in hot
climates this may necessitate a cold bath for the diluent bottle.
During vaccination it is recommended to gently agitate the bottle
containing
the vaccine regularly to maintain even distribution of
the virus cells to
prevent
the vaccine cells from settling.
It
is recommended
