WHAT IS PAXTINE USED FOR Paxtine is used to treat: • major depression and prevent the return of depressive symptoms • obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and prevent its recurrence • panic disorders (panic attacks) and prevent its recurrence • social anxiety disorder/social phobia • general anxiety disorder (GAD) • post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). ASK YOUR DOCTOR IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT WHY PAXTINE HAS BEEN PRESCRIBED FOR YOU. Your doctor may have prescribed Paxtine for another reason. Paxtine is available only with a doctor's prescription. Paxtine belongs to a group of medicines called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). SSRIs are thought to work by acting on chemicals in the brain called amines, which are involved in controlling mood. Paxtine corrects this chemical imbalance and helps to relieve the symptoms of the above conditions. Depression is a disorder where 'low moods' or feelings of sadness last longer, or are more severe than those that everyone has from time to time. Depression is thought to be caused by a chemical imbalance in certain parts of the brain. This imbalance affects your whole body and can cause emotional and physical symptoms such as low spirit, loss of interest in usual activities, changes in appetite, trouble sleeping, low energy and feeling guilty for no reason. PAXTINE _Paroxetine hydrochloride hemihydrate _ PRODUCT INFORMATION NAME OF THE MEDICINE PAXTINE (paroxetine hydrochloride hemihydrate) is an orally administered antidepressant with a chemical structure unrelated to other selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or to tricyclic, tetracyclic or other available antidepressant agents. It is the hydrochloride salt of a phenylpiperidine compound identified chemically as (-)-trans-4R-(4'-fluorophenyl)-3S - [(3',4'-methylenedioxyphenoxy)methyl]-piperidine hydrochloride hemihydrate. The molecular weight of paroxetine hydrochloride hemihydrate is 374.8 (329.4 as free base). The CAS Registry number for paroxetine (as free base) is 61869-08-7. F O O O CH 2 N H .HCl CAS Registry No.: 61869-08-7 DESCRIPTION Paroxetine hydrochloride is an odourless, off white powder, with a melting point range of 120 C to 138 C and solubility of 5.4 mg/mL in water. Each PAXTINE tablet contains 20 mg of paroxetine (as hydrochloride). PAXTINE tablets also contain titanium dioxide (white) as colourant, calcium hydrogen phosphate, hypromellose, sodium starch glycollate, magnesium stearate, polysorbate 80, macrogol 400 and titanium dioxide as excipients. PAXTINE tablets do not contain sucrose, lactose, gluten, tartrazine or any other azo dyes. PHARMACOLOGY Paroxetine is a potent and selective inhibitor of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT, serotonin) uptake and its antidepressant action and efficacy in the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder/Social Phobia, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) are thought to be related to its specific inhibition of 5-HT uptake in brain neurones. _In vitro_ studie Прочетете целия документ
