WHAT MEDOMYCIN IS USED FOR
MEDOMYCIN
capsules
contain
a
medicine
called
doxycycline.
Doxycycline
belongs
to
a
group
of
medicines
called
tetracycline
antibiotics.
It
is
also
known
as
a
broadspectrum antibiotic and may be
used to treat a wide range of infections
caused by bacteria, these include:

respiratory tract infections

urinary tract infections

sexually transmitted diseases

skin infections such as acne

infections of the eye

rickettsial infections such as
Q fever or tick fever

other
infections
that
are
caused
by
bacteria
and
microorganisms.
MEDOMYCIN is also used to prevent:
•
travellers
diarrhoea,
scrub
typhus,
leptospirosis
and
malaria.

HOW MEDOMYCIN WORKS
Doxycycline
stops
the
reproduction
and growth of bacteria.
BEFORE YOU USE MEDOMYCIN
_- When you must not use it _
_Do not use MEDOMYCIN if: _

you have had an allergic reaction to
doxycycline, or to any other similar
antibiotics ( tetracycline) or to any
of the excipients in the capsule.

The medicine has been prescribed
for a child under 12 years old
-
You have narrowing of esophagus
lumen (stricture)
-
You
have
problem
with
lower
esophageal sphincter (achalasia)
-
You are pregnant, trying for a baby
or you are breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or trying for a baby

MEDOMYCIN – PACKAGE INSERT

NAME OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT
Medomycin 100mg hard gelatin capsules.
2.
QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE COMPOSITION
Each Medomycin capsule 100mg contains 100mg of doxycycline as
doxycycline hyclate.
Excipient with known effect: lactose. Each capsule contains 145.mg
lactose (as monohydrate).

PHARMACEUTICAL FORM
Medomycin hard gelatin capsules are green-blue, sized 2, printed with
“Medochemie”.

CLINICAL PARTICULARS
4.1.
THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS
Doxycycline is used for the same purposes as tetracyclines.
Doxycycline like all the tetracycline has a wide spectrum of activity
and has been used in the treatment of a large
number of infections caused by susceptible organisms.
Specific conditions which have responded successfully to doxycyline
therapy include the following:
Respiratory infections
Acute bronchitis
Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis bronchiectasis, single and
multilobar pneumonia
Lung abscess
Upper respiratory tract infections such as pharyngitis and
laryngotracheitis ENT
Otitis media, sinusitis, tonsillitis
Genitourinary tract infections (acute and chronic)
Cystitis prostatitis, pyelonephritis, trigonitis, urethritis
(gonococcal) and others.
Skin and soft tissue infections abscess acne vulgaris and conglobata,
furunculosis, impetigo, infected burns
cellulites infected eczema and other infected rashes or dermatoses.
Infected traumatic and post-operative wounds omphalitis and
paronychia.
Digestive system infections:
Cholangitis, cholecystitis, petitonitis salmonellosis, shigellosis,
typhoid fever, obstetrical and gynaecological
infections, acute puerperal infections and pelvic inflammatory
disease.
Other infections:
Lymphogranuloma venereum, osteomyelitis, thrombophlebitis. Since
doxycycline is a member of the tetracyclines
series of antibiotics, it may be expected to be useful in the
treatment of infections such as following which respond
to other tetracyclines.
