SUMMARY OF PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS 1. NAME OF THE VETERINARY MEDICINAL PRODUCT Copper Sulphate 2. Qualitative and Quantitative Composition Copper sulphate pentahydrate 3. PHARMACEUTICAL FORM Premix for medicated feed. 4. PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES a) SUMMARY PRESENTATION OF THE ACTIVE INGREDIENT Correction of copper deficiency in dairy cows and goats caused by insufficient intake or copper antagonists present in the forage. b) PHARMACODYNAMIC PROPERTIES Copper plays an essential part of numerous oxidative enzyme systems including ascorbic acid oxidase, tyrosinase, uricase, cytochrome oxidase, and lysyl oxidase. Deficiency can result in anaemia, ill thrift, altered hair colouring, bone malformation and nervous defects. Fertility can be depressed. Sudden death is possible, also scouring, which can be severe where copper deficiency is secondary to other factors; such as excessive intake of molybdenum, sulfur, zinc or iron. High molybdenum levels produce complexes which reduce copper absorption, storage and utilisation. c) PHARMACOKINETIC PROPERTIES _Absorption_: The majority of the copper ingested as copper sulphate (crystalline) is excreted without absorption. Copper absorption and retention is strongly influenced by a number of other mineral elements and dietary components. The mode of absorption is believed to be both saturable and unsaturable (active and passive absorption processes). _Distribution_: Dietary levels of copper sulphate have been shown to accumulate predominantly in the liver, kidney. _Biotransformation_: Copper is a trace element essential for daily metabolism in the body. Absorbed copper first appears in the plasma as a cupric Прочетете целия документ
