BECARIN CREAM BECARIN CREAM INDICATIONS BECARIN CREAM contains 2%w/w Miconazole Nitrate in a white cream base. Preservatives: Methylparaben 0.32%w/w, Propylparaben 0.048%w/w. Miconazole is fungistatic, inhibits biosynthesis of ergosterol or other sterols, damaging the fungal cell wall membrane and altering permeabili- ty; as a result, loss of essential intracellular elements may occur, also inhibits biosynthesis of triglycerides and phospholipids by fungi; in addition, inhibits oxidative and peroxidative enzyme activity; resulting in intracellular buildup of toxic concentrations of hydrogen peroxides which may contribute to deterioration of subcellular organalles and cellular necrosis. In Candida albicans, inhibits transformation of blastospores into invasive mycelial form. Miconazole is incompletely absorbed from the gastro-intestinal tract. Penetration into cerebrospinal fluid and sputum is poor but miconazole infuses well into infected joints. Over 90% reported to be bound to plasma proteins. Miconazole is metabolised in the liver to inactive metabolites. There is little absorption through skin and mucous membranes when miconazole nitrate is applied topically. Treatment of fungal infections of skin and nails including cutaneous candidiasis, tinea corporis, tinea cruris, tinea pedis and tinea versicolor (pityriasis versicolor).
