SUMMARY OF PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS
1. TRADE NAME OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT
AESCUSAN
(R)
2. QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE COMPOSITION
100 g (102 ml) liquid contain:
4.725 g dry extract of horse chestnut seed (5-7:1)
Extraction solvent: Ethanol 60 % (V/V)
0.50 g thiamine hydrochloride.
Other excipients: see section 6.1.

4. CLINICAL PARTICULARS
4.1 Ranges of application
Traditionally used to improve the condition of tired legs. This
information is based
exclusively on tradition and longstanding experience. With newly
occurring or increased pain,
quickly increasing swelling, or blue discoloration of the legs, a
physican must be consulted
immediately, since these symptoms may be an indication of a venous
thrombosis of the leg
which requires quick action by a doctor.
4.2 POSOLOGY AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION
The following dosage is recommended:
12-15 drops should be taken three times a day.
29 drops complies 0.978 g (1 ml) liquid.
To be taken before meals with a drink.
Shake before use!
4.3 CONTRAINDICATIONS
Hypersensitivity to active substances or to any of the excipients.
4.4 SPECIAL WARNINGS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTION FOR USE
Contains 31 per cent by volume of alcohol.
Because of insufficient tests children under 12 years should not take
Aescusan.

Aescusan is unsuitable for patients who suffer from a rarely occurring
herediatary galactose
intolerance, a lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption.
4.5 INTERACTIONS WITH OTHER MEDICINAL PRODUCTS AND OTHER FORMS OF
INTERACTION
Loss of effect of the thiamine when applying sulfite containing
infusion solutions
simultaneously.
4.6 PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
There is not enough experience of the use of this medication during
pregnancy and lactation.
Aescusan should therefore not be taken during pregnancy and lactation.
4.7 EFFECTS ON ABILITY TO DRIVE AND USE MACHINES
No studies have been conducted on the potential effects on ability to
drive and use machines.
