COMPOSITION
QVAR 50
Each metered puff contains:
Beclometasone dipropionate 50 mcg
QVAR 100
Each metered puff contains:
Beclometasone dipropionate 100 mcg

USING THIS MEDICINE. This leaflet contains concise
information about this medicine. If you have any
further questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
This medicine has been prescribed to treat your
illness. Do not pass it on to others. It may harm them,
even if it seems to you that their medical condition is
similar to yours.
THIS MEDICINE IS NOT INTENDED FOR USE IN CHILDREN
AGED UNDER 5 YEARS.
1. WHAT IS THIS MEDICINE INTENDED FOR?
Qvar Autohaler is used to prevent and treat asthma
in adults and in children over 5 years old.
THERAPEUTIC GROUP:
inhaled corticosteroids.
Qvar
Autohaler
works
in
your
lungs
to
make
breathing easier by reducing inflammation, swelling,
and irritation in the airways. This type of medicine is
used for prevention, so it needs to be taken regularly
every day even if you have no symptoms.
This inhaler will not give immediate relief of wheezing
or breathlessness during a sudden asthma attack.
In such cases you will need to use a quick-acting
’reliever’ inhaler in addition to Qvar Autohaler.
2. BEFORE USING THIS MEDICINE
DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE IF:
•
you
are
sensitive
(allergic)
to
the
active
ingredient (beclometasone) or to any of the
other ingredients in this medicine
•
you are sensitive (allergic) to other inhalers
•
you are suffering from sudden breathlessness.
This inhaler will not help. Use a quick-acting
’reliever’ inhaler for this purpose and carry it with
you at all times.

PHARMACEUTICAL FORM
Pressurised inhalation, solution.
A colourless solution in a pressurised aluminium canister fitted with
a metering valve and an
actuator.
Qvar contains a propellant, which does not contain any
chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs).

CLINICAL PARTICULARS
4.1
THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS
Prophylaxis and treatment of bronchial asthma in adults and children 5
years of age and above.
4.2
POSOLOGY AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION
Qvar is for inhalation use only.
Patients should be instructed in the proper use of their inhaler,
including rinsing out their
mouth with water after use. Patients should be advised that Qvar may
have a different taste
and feel than a CFC inhaler.
NOTE: THE RECOMMENDED TOTAL DAILY DOSE OF QVAR IS LOWER THAN THAT FOR
CURRENT
BECLOMETASONE DIPROPIONATE CFC CONTAINING PRODUCTS AND SHOULD BE
ADJUSTED TO THE
NEEDS OF THE INDIVIDUAL PATIENT.
ADULT STARTING AND MAINTENANCE DOSE:
It is important to gain control of asthma symptoms and optimise
pulmonary function as soon
as possible. When patients’ symptoms remain under satisfactory
control, the dose should be
titrated to the lowest dose at which effective control of asthma is
maintained.

To be effective, inhaled Qvar must be used on
a
regular
basis
even
when
patients
are
asymptomatic.
Therapy in new patients should be initiated at the following dosages
Mild asthma:
100 to 200 micrograms per day in two divided doses.
Moderate asthma:
200 to 400 mic
