COMPOSITION
Each ml contains detomidine hydrochloride 10mg and methyl
parahydroxybenzoate 1mg as preservative.

PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION
Detomidine is a potent specific and relative alpha adrenoceptor
agonist exhibiting mainly α
2
-adrenoceptor
activity at both central and peripheral receptor sites. This agonism
leads to a characteristic pattern of
behavioural, physiological and neurological responses including
sedation, antinociception and anxiolysis.
The strength and duration of effect is dose-dependant. Detomidine
therefore produces sedative and
analgesic effects without hypnotic side effects.
INDICATIONS
Domosedan is a sedative with analgesic properties for use in horses;
the strength and duration of its effect
being dose-dependent. Domosedan can be used on its own in horses to
facilitate handling, transportation,
examinations and minor surgical procedures or as a premedication to
both injectable and inhalant
anaesthesia.
CONTRA-INDICATIONS
•
Do not use in conjunction with sympathomimetic amines or with
intravenous potentiated
sulphonamides.
•
Do not use in seriously ill animals with heart failure or impaired
liver or kidney function.
•
Do not use in mares in the last month of pregnancy.
WARNINGS
•
Not for use in food producing animals.
•
This product must not be administered to dogs.
•
In case of accidental exposure in people either by accidental
injection or spray exposure into the eye,
seek immediate medical treatment.
USE DURING PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
The safety of Domosedan has not been demonstrated during pregnancy and
lactation.
