Chlorhexidine Gluconate is the antiseptic
and
disinfectant,
the
antimicrobial
substance
that
helps
to
reduce
the
possibility
of
infection
and
used
for
sterilisation.

CONCENTRATE SOLUTION
COMPOSITION
Contains Chlorhexidine Gluconate 5 % w/v
PHARMACODYNAMICS
Chlorhexidine is a disinfectant which is effective against a wide
range of vegetative Gram-positive
and Gram-negative bacteria.
PHARMACOKINETICS
Chlorhexidine is poorly absorbed through skin.
INDICATION
BACIDIN is used for the pre-operative disinfection of the skin, as a
disinfectant for wound and burns,
obstetrics and gynaecology. It is also used for storage of sterile
instruments and for sterilisation of
aqueous solutions.
DOSAGE
FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY.
For disinfection of wounds and burns; swabbing in obstetrics &
gynaecology, and storage of sterile
instruments: 0.05 % w/v aqueous solution.
For pre-operative skin disinfection, emergency disinfection by 2
minutes immersion (excluding
endoscope) : 0.5 % w/v Alcoholic solution.
Sterilisation of aqueous solutions : 1 % or less of BACIDIN. Autoclave
at 115

C for 30 minutes or

C for 15 minutes.
DILUTION GUIDE:
0.05 % w/v Aqueous solution : Dilute 10 ml of BACIDIN with water up to
1L
0.5 % w/v Alcoholic solution : Dilute 100 ml of BACIDIN with 200 ml of
water and made up to 1 L with
95% alcohol.
Solutions for storage of instruments over 8 hours should contain 0.1%
of sodium nitrite to prevent
corrosion. Change solutions fortnightly.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
BACIDIN should not be used on the brain, meninges, or perforated
ear-drum. Syringes and needles
that have been immersed in BACIDIN solutions should be thoroughly
rinsed with Water for Injections
before use for spinal injection.
WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS
Do not use undiluted solutions on sensitive tissues.
Avoid contact with the eyes, brain, meninges and middle ear.
Chlorhexidine is incompatible with
cork, soaps and other anionic materials.
Do not mix with other chemicals or detergents.
