WHAT DETREMIN IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR
Detremin contains cholecalciferol (vitamin D
3
). It is used to treat vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency, for
example in the following conditions:
-
bone fragility, together with calcium and other treatment
-
secondary hyperparathyroidism (when low blood calcium levels lead to
excessive secretion of
parathyroid hormone, combined with enlargement of the parathyroid
gland).
Detremin is also used as prophylaxis and treatment of vitamin D
deficiency in persons with difficulties to
absorb vitamin D.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU TAKE DETREMIN
DO NOT TAKE DETREMIN
-
if you are allergic to vitamin D
3
or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6)
-
if you have hypercalcemia (too high levels of calcium in the blood)
-
if you have hypervitaminosis D (too high levels of vitamin D in the
blood).
Do not take Detremin together with calcium if you have severely
impaired renal function.
WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS
Do not take more Detremin than your doctor has prescribed, since
overdosage may occur. Do not at the same
time take other vitamin D containing products other t

KLINISKA UPPGIFTER
4.1
TERAPEUTISKA INDIKATIONER
Behandling av:
-
vitamin D-brist eller vitamin D-insufficiens
-
sekundär hyperparatyreoidism
Profylax och behandling av vitamin D-brist vid malabsorption.
Som komplement till specifik osteoporosbehandling i kombination med
kalcium.
4.2
DOSERING OCH ADMINISTRERINGSSÄTT
Dosering
Vanligtvis justeras dosen beroende på målvärdet av
serum-25-hydroxikolekalciferol, sjukdomens
svårighetsgrad och patientens respons på behandlingen. Mätning av
25-hydroxikolekalciferol och kalcium
rekommenderas 1 månad efter behandlingsstart. Fortsatta dosen,
behandlingstiden och behovet av ytterligare
kontroller ska anpassas efter den enskilde patienten, beroende på
diagnos, sjukdomens svårighetsgrad och
patientens respons på behandlingen.
Dosen hos vuxna och ungdomar (11-17 år) ska inte överstiga 4000 IE
(5 droppar) per dag, barn (1-10 år)
2000 IE/dag och spädbarn (ålder 0-1 år) 1000 IE/dag. För vuxna
patienter med malabsorption ska den
dagliga dosen inte överstiga 9600 IE.
En vanlig daglig dos på 800 IE (en droppe) ökar serum
25-hydroxikolekalciferol i genomsnitt med cirka 20
nmol/l inom 4-5 månader hos vuxna.
Dosen kan ges som dagliga doser eller en gång i veckan.
