WHAT TOPIMAX IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR
Topimax belongs to a group of medicines called “anti-epileptic
medicines”. It is used:
-
alone to treat seizures in adults and children over age 6
-
with other medicines to treat seizures in adults and children aged 2
years and above
-
to prevent migraine headaches in adults

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU TAKE TOPIMAX
DO NOT TAKE TOPIMAX
-
if you are allergic to topiramate or any of the other ingredients of
this medicine (listed in
section 6).
-
for migraine prevention: if you are pregnant or if you are a woman of
childbearing potential
unless you are using effective contraception (see section ‘pregnancy
and breastfeeding’ for
further information). You should talk to your doctor about the best
kind of contraception to use
while you are taking Topimax.
If you are not sure if the above applies to you, talk to your doctor
or pharmacist before using Topimax.
WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Topimax if you:

have kidney problems, especially kidney stone

LÄKEMEDELSFORM
Filmdragerad tablett.
25 mg: Vita runda tabletter, 6 mm i diameter, präglade "TOP" på ena
sidan; "25" på den andra sidan.
50 mg: Ljusgula runda tabletter, 7 mm i diameter, präglade "TOP" på
ena sidan; "50" på den andra
sidan.
100 mg: Gula runda tabletter, 9 mm i diameter, präglade "TOP" på ena
sidan; "100" på den andra
sidan.
200 mg: Laxrosa runda tabletter, 10 mm i diameter, präglade "TOP" på
ena sidan; "200" på den andra
sidan.

KLINISKA UPPGIFTER
4.1
TERAPEUTISKA INDIKATIONER
Monoterapi till vuxna, ungdomar och barn över 6 år med partiella
anfall med eller utan sekundär
generalisering eller primärt generaliserade tonisk-kloniska anfall.
Tilläggsbehandling till barn från 2 års ålder, ungdomar och vuxna
med partiella anfall med eller utan
sekundär generalisering eller primärt generaliserade tonisk-kloniska
anfall och för behandling av
anfall i samband med Lennox-Gastauts syndrom.
Topiramat är indicerat hos vuxna som profylax av migränhuvudvärk
efter noggrann utvärdering av
möjliga alternativa behandlingsmetoder. Topiramat är inte avsett
för akut behandling.
