Intended for use with TLT technique. Indications for TLT technique are similar to those for other types of tracheostomy and required a ventilated, anaesthetised patient who is preferably paralysed. TLT technique is not recommended for emergency tracheostomy; contra-indications to its use include difficult access to the trachea, immobility of the neck and restricted mouth opening, but given its intrinsic safety aspects and low incidence of bleeding, the TLT technique has been employed in patients with abnormalities of coagulations, thyroid goitre and other conditions where the normal anatomical landmarks are not easily visible
