WHAT CITREX COUGH SYRUP IS USED
FOR
Citrex Cough Syrup is used for the
relief of chesty coughs, loosen mucus
and thinning bronchial secretion.
HOW
CITREX
COUGH
SYRUP
WORKS
Citrex
Cough
Syrup
works
as
an
expectorant
which
irritates
mucous
membrane layer of the stomach and
subsequently
stimulating
respiratory
tract
secretions.
By
increasing
the
water content of the mucus, it will
eventually decrease the thickness of
bronchial secretions.
BEFORE YOU USE CITREX COUGH SYRUP
_- When you must not use it _
Do not take Citrex Cough Syrup if
you are allergic to Guaifenesin.
Do not take Citrex Cough Syrup if
you
are
pregnant,
trying
to
get
pregnant
or
think
you
may
be
pregnant
without
discussing
with
your doctor first.
Do not take Citrex Cough Syrup if
you are breast-feeding.
If
you
are
not
sure
whether
you
should start taking this medicine, talk
to your doctor or pharmacist.
_Before you start to use it _
Tell your doctor if you have allergies
to Guaifenesin.
Your doctor
needs
to know before
you take Citrex Cough Syrup if you
have kidney or liver problem. Citrex
Cough Syrup should be given with
care to patients with impaired kidney
or liver function.
Besides
that,
do
consult
with
your
doctor
or
pharmacist
before
taking
this medicine if the following occurs:

Continuous cough for more than 7
days or cough occur repeatedly or
is accompanied by fever, rash or
constant headache.

Continuous
cough
that
may
be
caused by asthma.

Cough which brings up a lot of
mucus.
Discuss
with
your
doctor
or
pharmacist first if you are pregnant or
breastfeeding.

CITREX COUGH SYRUP 100MG/5ML
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
A clear, orange coloured solution with a sweet, pleasant smell.
COMPOSITION
Each 5ml contains:
• Active Ingredient: Guaifenesin 100mg
• Preservative: Sodium Benzoate 5mg
ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION
Oral
PHARMACODYNAMICS
Guaifenesin is an expectorant which is thought to act by irritating
the gastric mucosa and subsequently stimulating respiratory tract
secretions. This increase in fluid increases the volume and
decreases the viscosity of bronchial secretions.
PHARMACOKINETICS
Guaifenesin is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. It is
metabolised and then excreted in the urine. The half-life in
plasma is approximately 1 hour.
INDICATIONS
Citrex Cough Syrup 100mg/5ml helps to:
• Relieve of chesty coughs.
• Loosen phlegm and thin bronchial secretion.
RECOMMENDED DOSAGE
The elderly, adults and children over 12 years: Take 10ml four
times daily.
Children
6 – 12 years: Take 5ml four times daily
2 – 6 years: Take 2.5ml four times daily
Under 2 years: Not recommended
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Hypersensitivity
to
Guaifenesin
or
any
of
the
ingredients/components of the product.
WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS
Do not exceed the stated dose. Please consult with a doctor or
pharmacist before taking this medicine if the following occurs:
• Constant cough for more than 7 days or cough recurs or is
accompanied by a fever, rash or persistent headache.
• Persistent cough that may be caused by asthma.
• Cough which brings up a lot of mucus (phlegm).
• Suffer from liver or kidney problems.
• Concomitant use of cough suppressants and other cough and
cold medicine.
INTERACTIONS WITH OTHER MEDICAMENTS
_Diagnostic Interference:_
Guaifenesin has been shown to produce a colour interference
with
certain
clinical
laboratory
determinations
of
5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) and vanillylmandelic acid
(VMA).
Guaifenesin could interfere with the diagnosis of carcinoid
syndrome.
Patients
being
evaluated
for
carcinoid
syndrome
should
therefore
