DiseasesCaused by Effect

Enterotoxaemia (Pulpy

kidney) Clostridium

perfringenstype D Can cause sudden death, mainlyin young animals in good

condition. Often seen in connection with a sudden change

in feed condition or verygenerous feeding.

Tetanus Clostridium tetani Can cause gradual onset ofstiffness, muscle cramp,

spasms and death. Occurs commonlyin association with

deep wounds, nail punctures, marking or shearing.

Blackleg Clostridium chauvoei Can cause sudden death in mostlyyoung growing animals

in good condition. Death can occur within 24 hours.

Commonlyassociated with bruising and wounds.

Malignant oedema Clostridium septicum Can cause death in 24 to 48 hours after wound infection.

Often associated with unhygienic practises at tail docking,

mulesing, shearing and castration.

Black Disease Clostridium novyi

type B Can cause sudden death in mostlymature animals in good

condition. Often associated with liver damage caused by

migrating liver fluke.

Caseous lymphadenitis

(CLA or Cheesygland) Corynebacterium

pseudotuberculosis

(ovis) Causes abscesses in lymph nodes of sheep after invading

fresh cuts. Mostlyassociated with shearing and

contaminated sheep clips.

Cobalt deficiency Primarydeficiencyof

cobalt in the diet No specific clinical signs, can cause gradual decrease in

appetite, accompanied byloss of bodyweight, final

emaciation and weakness.

White muscle disease

and unthriftiness Selenium deficiency Causes “white muscledisease” in lambs, which can result

in weakness, immobility,recumbency,heart failure and

death in affected lambs.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Shake well before use and keep thoroughly mixed during use.

Once opened, vaccine should be used within 24 hours.

ONLY FOR USE IN SELENIUM DEFICIENT AREAS

CONTRAINDICATION:This product should not be used whenselenium intake from pasture

is high or selenium is provided by other means(such as pasture top dressing, vaccine, pellets

or selenium drenches) or if blood selenium levels at treatment are high. Users can determine

selenium status by consulting their veterinarian.

Dosage:1 mL dose by subcutaneous injection (under the skin, NOT into the muscle).

Lambs: 1 mL dose at marking followed by a second 1 mL dose 4 to 6 weeks later. An

annual booster dose will maintain a high level of immunity.

Ewes (fullyvaccinated as lambs): An annual booster dose. Administered 2 to 3 weeks

before lambing if possible. This will ensure that high levels of protective antibodies are

passed to the lambs in colostrum to protectthem in their first 6 weeks of life and at

marking.

Slaughter lambs from vaccinated ewes: 1 mL dose at marking. This will usually be

sufficient to protect prime lambs fromvaccinated ewes going to early slaughter.

VACCINATION PROGRAM

Full active immune response requires 2 injections. A priming dose must be followed by a

secondary dose 4 to 6 weeks later to producemaximum response. The initial immunising

course of 2 injections 4 to 6 weeks apart should be followed by an annual booster injection to

maintain immunity.

Note:

Enterotoxaemia: Although Enterotoxaemia occurs most commonly in forward lambs,

sheep fed grain in drought conditions or grazed on wheat stubble may be affected. 2

doses of vaccine at an interval of not less than 4 weeks are required for strong protection.

Cheesygland (CLA) control: Shearing and dipping are the times of maximum exposure

to this disease. For optimum controlannual booster doses should occur 2 - 3 weeks

before shearing.

Cobalt deficiencies: In cobalt deficient areas it isrecommended that ewes be treated with

cobalt or vitamin B 12 to ensure that lambs are adequately covered until vaccination.

RESEALING INSTRUCTIONS

A partially used pack can be kept for use the next day if the following steps are taken

1.Unscrew the delivery tube from the vaccine pack.

2.Empty the delivery tube and vaccinatorby depressing the plunger several times.

increases the risk ofvaccine contamination.

A. Singledoses

Single doses of the vaccine may be withdrawn from the pack using a sterilised hypodermic

needle and syringe after disinfecting the stopper of the vaccine pack.

B.Use with automatic vaccinator

An automatic vaccinator may be attached to the pack as follows:

1.Remove the sterilised plastic cap and tube from the pack.

2.Connect the tube to the automatic vaccinator.

3.Disinfect the stopper with a suitable antiseptic, eg. methylated spirits.

4.Screw the cap on to the plastic bottleof the vaccine which will cause the needle to

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Shake well before use and keep thoroughly mixed during use.

Once opened, vaccine should be used within 24hours.

ONLY FOR USE IN SELENIUM DEFICIENT AREAS

CONTRAINDICATION

This product should not be used when selenium intake from pasture

is high or selenium is provided by other means (such as pasture

top dressing, vaccine, pellets or selenium drenches), or if blood

selenium levels at treatment are high. Users can determine selenium

status by consulting their veterinarian.

Dosage:

1 mL dose by subcutaneous injection (under the skin,NOTinto

the muscle).

Lambs:1mL dose at marking followed by a second 1mL dose

4 to 6 weeks later. An annual booster dose will maintain a high

level of immunity.

Ewes (fully vaccinated as lambs):An annual booster dose.

Administered 2 to 3 weeks before lambing if possible. This will

ensure that high levels of protective antibodies are passed to the

lambs in colostrum to protect them in their first 6 weeks of life

and at marking.

Slaughter lambs from vaccinated ewes:1mL dose at marking.

This will usually be sufficient to protect prime lambs from

vaccinated ewes going to early slaughter.

VACCINATION PROGRAM

Full active immune response requires 2 injections. A priming

dose must be followed by a secondary dose 4 to 6 weeks later to

produce maximum response.

The initial immunising course of 2 injections 4 to 6 weeks apart

should be followed by an annual booster injection to maintain

immunity.

Note:

Enterotoxaemia:Although Enterotoxaemia occurs most commonly

in forward lambs, sheep fed grain in drought conditions or grazed

on wheat stubble may be affected. 2 doses of vaccine at an

interval of not less than 4 weeks are required for strong protection.

It may be necessary in certain areas, with seasonal high challenge

(such as when pasture conditions are also likely to cause bloat) to

give a booster dose before each danger period.

Cheesy gland (CLA) control:Shearing and dipping are the times of

maximum exposure to this disease. For optimum control annual

booster doses should occur 2 - 3 weeks before shearing.

Cobalt deficiencies:In cobalt deficient areas it is recommended

that ewes be treated with cobalt or vitamin B

to ensure that

lambs are adequately covered until vaccination.

RESEALING INSTRUCTIONS

A partially used pack can be kept for use the next day if the

following steps are taken

1. Unscrew the delivery tube from the vaccine pack.

2. Empty the delivery tube and vaccinator by depressing the

plunger several times.

3. Disinfect the stopper.

4. Store the vaccine in the refrigerator. Do not freeze.

Note:

Before re-use the delivery tube and cap should be sterilised by

boiling for at least ten minutes. The plastic deliverytube may

become opaque.

Frequent attachment of the connecting tube may cause the stopper

to leak. Therefore, the tube should not be attached more than twice.

increases the risk of vaccine contamination.

A. Single doses

Single doses of the vaccine may be withdrawn from the pack using

a sterilised hypodermic needle and syringe after disinfecting the

stopper of the vaccine pack.

B.Use with automatic vaccinator

An automatic vaccinator may be attached to the pack as follows:

1. Remove the sterilised plastic cap and tube from the pack.

2. Connect the tube to the automatic vaccinator.

3. Disinfect the stopper with a suitable antiseptic, eg. methylated

spirits.

4. Screw the cap on to the plastic bottle of the vaccine, which will

cause the needle to penetrate the stopper.

5. Prime the automatic vaccinator by depressing the plunger

several times and vaccine will flow to the needle.

WITHHOLDING PERIOD:NIL

TRADE ADVICE: EXPORTSLAUGHTER INTERVAL (ESI): ESI not

required.

CAUTION.TO AVOID CARCASS DAMAGE

1. Sterilise all injection apparatus by boiling (or equivalent) before

use. Avoid use of strong disinfectants on apparatus.

2. Maintain cleanliness at all times.

3. Keep needles sharp and clean, replace frequently.

4. Use shortest needle possible, certainly not exceeding 15mm.

5. As far as possible avoid injection of animals during wet weather

or under dusty conditions.

6. This product should be injected only under the skin.

7. If possible inject high on the neck behind the ear.

FIRST AID

If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information

Centre. Phone 131 126. If skin contact occurs, remove

contaminated clothing and wash skin thoroughly.

USER FIRST AID AND SAFETY DIRECTIONS

Accidental self-injectionmay lead to an inflammatory response

and medical advice should be sought on the management of

deep injections, particularly those near a joint or associated with

bruising. These require correct medical management and should

be referred immediately to a medical practitioner for advice on

treatment.

Repeated exposure may cause allergic disorders. Wash hands
