days)throughmicrobialdegradation,initiallybyhydrolysistoF8426-chloropropionicacid,andthen

throughfurtherside-chaindegradationtootheracids.Basedonfieldstudies,carfentrazone-ethylandits

majormetabolite,F8426-chloropropionicacid,areconfinedtothetopsoillayer,indicatingonlyslight

mobilityinsoil.Carfentrazone-ethylishydrolyticallyunstableinbase(half-lifeof5.1hours),withstability

increasingwithdecreasingpH.Itissusceptibletophotolyticdegradationinwater,withahalf-lifeof8.3

days(pH5).TheLogPowis3.36andthemeasuredbioconcentrationfactorinwholefishis159,both

indicatingalowpotentialforaccumulation.Itsvaporpressureis1.19x10-7torr,indicatingthatvolatility

earthworms,carfentrazone-ethylwasshowntocausenoeffectsatconcentrationsupto820mg/kginsoil.

Carfentrazone-ethylshowslittletoxicitytobirdseitherorally(LD50>2,250mg/kg),orinthediet(LC50>

5,620ppm).Similarly,carfentrazone-ethylhaslowtoxicitytobees(nodeathat200µg/bee).
