Section 11 -Toxicological Information

Local Effects:

Target Organs: There is nodata to hand indicating anyparticular target organs.

Classification of Hazardous Ingredients

IngredientRisk Phrases

Transfluthrin Conc>=20%: Xi; R38

Transfluthrin isof low acute toxicity in therat, with an LD

of >5000 mg/kg bwvia each route ofadministration and

with an acuteand dermalNOEL of 100mg/kg bw/d. The 4 h LC

was >513 mg/m 3 air for male and femalerats. The

only sign noted during the14 d observation period was a slight tremor in females for 5 minutesafter dosing.

Transfluthrin is not a skin oreye irritant, nor a skinsensitizer.

Transfluthrin was not mutagenicin vitroinbacteria, yeast or mammalian cellswith or without metabolicactivation,

neitherwas the any evidence of mutagenicity frominvivotestson ratsand mice.

In a dietary multi-generation reproductivetoxicity study inthe rat, there was noevidence ofteratogenicity, foetotoxicity

or reproductive toxicity in rats administered transfluthrin at dosesupto 191 mg/kgbw/d.

Section 12 -Ecological Information

Environmental toxicity tests showed thattransfluthrinis oflow toxicity to algae, earthworms and birds but ishighly

toxic to fish and daphnia.

Environmental fate

Tests of hydrolysis for transfluthrin at 25°C for 36d gavea half-lifeof 14 d at pH 9 and >1 yearat pH 7 and5. Under

the test conditions transfluthrin did not readily hydrolyse and, considering the very low water solubility and strong

adsorption characteristicsof the compound, hydrolysis is expectedto play a minor rolein the degradation of

transfluthrin inthe environment.

Transfluthrin underwent photolysiswhenirradiated with lightof wavelengths> 290nm with anextrapolatedhalf-life of

17 h. A calculation to determine the rateof degradation oftransfluthrin in air estimated the half-life to be 4.1 d.

Section 13 -Disposal Considerations

Disposal:There are manypiecesof legislation covering wastedisposal and theydiffer in each state and territory, so

each user must refer to laws operating intheir area. In someareas, certain wastesmust be tracked. TheHierarchy of
