DUALS ANTIBACTERIAL

PESSARY/BOLUS

Each pessary/bolus contains

200 mg TRIMETHOPRIM

1000 mg SULFADIAZINE

Tribactral Boluses contain Trimethoprim, a synthetic antibacterial developed in the Wellcome

Research Laboratories and Sulfadiazine.

Tribactral is effective against most Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The two

components of Tribactral produce a sequential double blockade of bacterial metabolism giving

a level of activity many times greater than that obtained from either drug alone.

Antibacterial Activity

The in vitro antibacterial activity of Tribactral is extensive and covers most Gram-negative and

Gram-positive

bacteria.

does

not,

however,

include

Erysipelothrix,

Leptospira

Pseudomonas organisms nor Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The activity of Tribactral Bolus is

particularly high against E.coli and Salmonella organisms.

INDICATIONS

Oral - Tribactral Boluses are intended primarily for the oral treatment of bacterial scours in

calves, but may also be used for foals. Besides exerting a powerful antibacterial effect in the

intestine,

both

constituents

Tribactral are absorbed and are active against systemic

infections such as acute salmonellosis, bacterial pneumonia, calf diptheria, etc.

Intra-uterine - Tribactral Pessaries may be used for the treatment or prevention of post

parturient infections in non-lactating cattle and sheep, and also in horses and pigs, including

vaginitis and metritis.

Note: Tribactral Pessaries/Boluses may be used to complete treatment initiated by Tribactral

Injection.
