DESCRIPTION
Gentamicin sulfate is a white to almost white hygroscopic powder which
is freely soluble in water, ethylene glycol and formamide. It is
practically insoluble in alcohol, acetone, chloroform
and ether. Gentamicin sulfate is a mixture of the sulfates of
antimicrobial substances produced by Micromonospora Gentamicin sulfate

Gentamicin sulfate is a mixture of the sulfates of
antimicrobial substances produced by Micromonospora
Gentamicin, an aminoglycoside antibiotic, possesses in vivo and in
vitro broad antibacterial spectrum action. Its activity covers gram
positive bacteria and also the clinically increasingly
important gram negative micro-organisms such as E.col, Klebsiella,
Enterobacter, Pseudomonas and Proteus; above all it is effective
against problem germs which are resistant to other
antibiotics.
Gentamicin has a bactericidal effect on proliferating and latent
germs. Gentamicin is release gradually from the beads over a prolonged
period and the high bactericidal concentrations of
the antibiotic reached at the site of the infection enable the
infection to be controlled, or provide protection against infection.
Each Septopal

bead consists of 7.5mg gentamicin sulfate which is equivalent to 4.5mg
gentamicin with an efficacy of 600μg/mg), 20mg zirconium dioxide as
an X-ray contrast medium,
3.375mg glycine, 23.22mg acrylate copolymer and 169.02mg polymethyl
