What Hycolic is used for

It is used for spasm of the gastrointestinal or

genito-urinary tracts and in menstrual pain.

How Hycolic works

Hyoscine butylbromide reduces muscle

spasm and diminishes gastric and intestinal

movement. It is used in conditions

associated with spasms.

Before you use Hycolic

- When you must not use it

Do not take Hycolic if

- allergic to its active ingredient or to

other ingredients in it.

- enlargement of the prostate gland,

intestinal obstruction due to paralysis of

the intestinal muscles, and pyloric

stenosis (blockage of stomach to the

intestines). and increased eye pressure.

- Before you start to use it

- use with care in elderly men and in

children, with fever.

- caution if there is increased heart rate in

individuals with excess of thyroid

hormone, heart failure and surgery.

- Taking other medicines

Concurrent use of other medicines may

increase the effects such as:

- amantadine (for flu)

- some antihistamines

- butyrophenones (for schizophrenia)

- phenothiazines (for mental disorders)

- tricyclic antidepressants (for depression)

How to use Hycolic

- How much to use

Adults: oral, 2 – 4 teaspoonfuls 3 – 4 times

daily, the dosage adjusted as needed and

tolerated. Children-over 6 years: oral, 2

teaspoonfuls 3 – 4 times daily. Below 6

years: oral, 1 – 2 teaspoonfuls 3 times

daily. Infants: oral, 1 teaspoonful 3 times

daily, or as directed. Follow all directions

given by your doctor and pharmacist

carefully. They may differ from the

information contained in this leaflet. If you

do not understand the instructions on the

label, ask your doctor

or pharmacist.


When to use it

Use as directed by your doctor or


- How long to use it

Continue taking Hycolic for as long as

your doctor recommends.

- If you forget to use it

Consult your doctor or pharmacist on what

you should do if you forget to use it. Take

the missed dose as soon as you remember.

If it is almost time for your next dose, wait

until then to take the medicine and skip the

missed dose. Do not take a double dose to

make up for the missed dose.

- If you use too much (overdose)

Contact your doctor immediately or go

to the Emergency Department of your

nearest hospital, if you think you or

anyone else may have taken too much of

this medicine.

Overdose may cause increased heart rate,

high fever, restlessness, confusion,

excitement, hallucination (hear, smell,

taste or feel things that do not exist), rash,

circulatory failure and breathing difficulty.

While you are using Hycolic

- Things you must do

Take your medicine exactly as your

doctor has told you.

Tell the doctors, dentists and pharmacists

treating you that you are taking Hycolic.

Tell the doctor immediately if you are

pregnant or breastfeeding.

- Things you must not do

Do not stop taking the medicine unless

advised by your doctor.

Do not take any new medicines without

consulting your doctor.

Do not give Hycolic to anyone else, even if

they have the same symptoms or condition

as you.

- Things to be careful of

Safety for use in pregnancy and

breastfeeding has not been established.

Side effects

Dry mouth, increased eye pressure, blurred

vision, flushing of skin, increased and

irregular heartbeats, urinary retention,

constipation, vomiting and giddiness may

occur occasionally.

You may report any side effects or adverse

drug reactions directly to the National

Centre for Adverse Drug Reaction

Storage and Disposal of Hycolic

- Storage

Store in cool, dry place below 25

Protect from light.

Keep out of reach of children.

Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of

medicines no longer required.
