HealthEffects

Acute

Swallowed Due tothelowtoxicityand rapid metabolismof Permethrin,toxic effects arenot

expectedunlessthereisingestionoflarge amounts. Inthiscase, nauseaand

vomitingmight occur duetothesurfactants present.

Eye Inanimal studies, 0.1mLof a concentrated permethrin solution instilled intothe

rabbiteye (24 hourtest) gaveno irritation.

Skin Based on studies with animals, Permethrinis essentiallynon sensitising(on guinea

pigskin) and non irritant(on rabbitskin). However, it isanticipatedthatthe

surfactants are potentialirritants. Therefore, contactwith thisproduct maycause

irritation to theskin.

Inhaled Thereareno known effectsof inhalation ofthisdilutedinsecticide.

Chronic Studies ofpermethrinhaveshown no mutagenic,carcinogenic orteratogeniceffectsin

long-termanimal studies. A 2 year feedingstudyin rats at100mg/kgwas without

adverse effects. A secondstudyin ratsat0, 500,1000and 2500ppmin the diet,

resulted intremors, hypersensitivityandenlarged liversin ratsatthe highest dose rate.

No other effectswereseen.A lifetime studyin mice at0, 500, 1000 and2500ppmin

dietresultedin micefailingto gain weight inthehighest dosagegroups. Thereisno

evidence ofa carcinogenic effect in thisstudy.

No teratogenic effects werefoundin studies withmiceand with twodifferent strainof

rats. No genotoxicityhas been detectedina number ofin-vitro and in-vivo assays.

Based onthisinformationifappears unlikelythattherewillbe anychronic health

effects inhumans resultingfromexposureto Permethrin. Due tothe rapid

metabolismand low toxicityin long-termanimal studies, chronic health effects in

humans appeartobe unlikely.

Swallowed Ifswallowed,induce vomiting. Seekmedical attentionif unwell.

Eye Hold eye open and wash continuallywith water for atleast 15 minutes. Liftupper

and lower lids toensure complete irrigation ofthe eye. Ifirritation persists, seek

medical attention.
