HEALTH EFFECTS:

Overexposure byany route to chlorinated hydrocarbons maycause nervousness and hyperactivity,

headache, nausea, vomiting, unusual sensations andfatigue. Convulsions and comamayfollow. Repeated

exposures can cause adrenal, liver, kidneyorheart failure.

CHRONIC

Chronic exposure to dicofol and tetradifon can causedamage to the kidney,liver or heart. There is limited

evidence thatdicofolmaycausecancerin laboratoryanimals,but thereisno evidence that itcausecancer

in humans.However, dicofolmaybe classified asa possible human carcinogen. Dicofol andtetradifon do

no show teratogenic andmutagenic effects. Tetradifon is not classified as a carcinogen. Repeated or

prolonged contact of dicofol with skinmaycause dermatitis.

FIRST AID:

If poisoningoccurs contact a doctor orPoisonInformation Centre. Phone Australia 131126.

Swallowed: If patient isconscious, giveplentyofwater to drinkand induce vomiting with

15 mLof Ipecac Syrup APF if available. DO NOT give milk or oils. If

unconscious,ensure patient can breath easilyand give nothingbymouth.

Eye: Hold eye(s) open and flush with water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical

advice.

Skin: Remove contaminated clothingwhilewashing with copious quantities ofwater

for 15 minutes. Seekmedical advice Launder clothingbefore re-use.

Inhaled: Remove patient to fresh air. If shortness of breath or asphyxia has occurred, give

oxygen and commence resuscitation if necessary.Seek urgent medical advice.

ADVICE TODOCTOR:

Moderatelytoxic chlorinated hydrocarbon. Evacuationofthe stomach is advisable followed byactivated

charcoal. Diazepammaybe used,ifnecessary,for the treatment of convulsions. Do not administer

epinephrine becausechlorinated hydrocarbons maysensitize the heart to catecholamines. Monitor for liver

and adrenaldysfunctionand myocardial irritability,the latter independentof administered adrenergic

amines.

PRECAUTIONS FOR USE

EXPOSURESTANDARDS:

None allocated for this material bytheNational Occupational Health and SafetyCommission . However,

for diatomite, containing no asbestosand <1% crystalline silica, TWA Exposure Standard = 10 mg/m 3 .

The exposure limit is expressedas a timeweightedaverage (TWA) concentration over an 8 hour working

shift, for a 5dayworkingweek, and is the exposure standard recommended byWorksafe Australia.

ENGINEERING STANDARDS:

Use onlyinawell ventilated area. Keepcontainers closed when notin use.

PERSONALPROTECTION:

Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Donot inhale dust. Do not eat, drink or smokewhileusing. Wear

cotton overalls buttonedtothe neck andwrist, a washable hat, elbow-length PVC gloves, a face shield and

disposable facemask. In the absenceof adequate ventilation, use a respirator fitted with anagricultural

chemical cartridge(s). If product onskin, immediatelywash area with soap and water. After use and

before eating, drinking, smoking or using the toilet,wash hands,armsand face thoroughlywith soap and

water. Launder contaminated clothing and protective equipment before storing orre-using.

contamination as wellas inhalation ofdust. Collect asmuch of the powder as possible and avoid raising

dust. Transfer into secure, sealed and properlylabeledcontainers for disposal. Sluice down site of spill

with dilute sodiumhypochlorite (bleach) solution.Absorb excess liquid in soil or water; sweep up the

mixture of bleach and soil, andhose down the spill site with plenty ofwater. If there is contamination of

crops or waterways, advise emergencyservices or State Departmentof Agriculture.

Disposal after intendeduse:If recycling, replace cap and return clean containers to recycler or

designated collection point. If not recycling, break, crush or puncture and buryemptycontainers in a local

authoritylandfill. If not available, bury the containers below 500mm in a disposal pit specificallymarked

and set up for this purposeclear of waterways, vegetation and roots.Emptycontainers and product should

not be burnt.

Disposal after spill or accident:Dispose of sealed containers at an approved local waste disposal site.
