7. Handling and storage

Handling

Thisproduct contains solvents. Solvent vapours areheavier than airand may spread along floors.

Vapours may form explosive mixtureswith air.Areasof storage, preparationand application should be

ventilated to prevent the creation of flammable orexplosiveconcentrations of vapour in air and avoid

vapour concentrations higher than theoccupational exposurelimits.

In Storage

Handle containers carefully to prevent damageand spillage.

Naked flames and smoking should not be permitted instorage areas. It isrecommended that forklift

trucks and electrical equipment are protected to the appropriatestandard.

In Use

Avoid skinand eyecontact.Avoid inhalation of vapours and spray mists. Observe label precautions. Use

8. Exposure controls and personal protection

Engineering Measures

Provideadequate ventilation. Where reasonably practicable this should be achievedby the use oflocal

exhaust ventilation and good general extraction. If theseare not sufficientto maintain concentrations of

particulatesand any vapour belowoccupational exposurelimits suitablerespiratory protection must be

worn.

Exposure Limits

From the ASCC "Exposure Standards for AtmosphericContaminants in the Occupational Environment".

For detailed information refer to the ASCCweb site(www.ascc.gov.au).

Material Short term(15 min.ave) Long term (8hrtime weighted

average)

(Sk)There is a risk of absorption through unbroken skin

(Sen) Sensitiser

(Cat1) Category 1 - established human carcinogen

(Cat2) Category 2 - probable human carcinogen

(Cat3) Category 3 - substances suspected ofhaving carcinogenicpotential.

There isno biological limit allocated.

Personal Protection

Respiratory Protection

When concentrations exceed the exposurelimitsshown aboveworkers mustwearappropriate respirators

approved inaccordance AS/NZS1716. Provision ofothercontrols such as exhaust ventilation should be

consideredif practical.

Eye Protection

Wear safety eyewear, e.g. safety spectacles, gogglesorvisors to protect against the splash ofliquids.

Eyewear should comply with AS/NZS1337.

Wear a fullfaceshield if mixing orpouring operationsposea risk ofsplashes.

An eyewash station is suggested asagood workplacepractice.

Hand Protection

Gloves of anappropriatematerialshouldbe wornduring mixingand application. Nitrile or PVC gloves

aregenerally recommended for productscontaining solvents.

Skin Protection

Overallswhich cover the body, arms and legs should be worn. Skin should not beexposed. Barrier

creams may help to protect areas which aredifficult to coversuch as thefaceand neck. Theyshould

howevernot be applied once exposurehas occurred. Petroleum jelly based types suchas Vaseline should
