circumstances, oxides of nitrogen. Occasionally hydrogen cyanidegas. Water. Carbonmonoxide poisoningproduces

headache, weakness, nausea, dizziness, confusion, dimness of vision, disturbance of judgment, and

unconsciousness followedby coma and death. Hydrogen cyanidepoisoningsigns and symptoms are weakness,

dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting, coma, convulsions, and death. Death results from respiratory arrest.

Hydrogencyanide gas actsvery rapidly; symptoms and deathcanboth occur quickly.

Polymerisation:This product will not undergo polymerisation reactions.

Section 11 - Toxicological Information

Toxicity: Acute toxicity:Abamectin is highly toxicto insects and may be highly toxic to mammalsaswell.

Emulsifiable concentrate formulationsmay cause slight to moderate eye irritation and mildskin irritation. Symptoms of

poisoning observed in laboratory animals include pupil dilation, vomiting, convulsions and/or tremors, and coma.

Abamectin acts on insects by interfering with the nervoussystem. At very high doses, it can affect mammals, causing

symptomsof nervoussystem depression such asincoordination, tremors, lethargy, excitation, and pupil dilation. Very

high doses have causeddeath from respiratory failure. Abamectinis not readily absorbed throughskin. Tests with

monkeys showthat less than 1% ofdermally appliedabamectin was absorbedinto the bloodstreamthrough the skin.

Abamectin does not causeallergicskinreactions. Theoral LD

for abamectin inrats is10 mg/kg, and in mice ranges

from 14 mg/kg to greaterthan 80 mg/kg.The dermal LD

for technical abamectin in rats andrabbits isgreater than

330 mg/kg.

Chronic toxicity: In a 1-year study with dogs givenoral doses ofabamectin, dogs at the 0.5and 1 mg/kg/day doses

exhibited pupil dilation, weight loss, lethargy, tremors, andrecumbency. Similarresults were seenin a 2-year study

with ratsfed 0.75, 1.5, or 2 mg/kg/day.Rats at all thedosage levelsexhibited body weight gainssignificantly higher

than the controls. A few individuals in thehigh dose group exhibitedtremors. When micewerefed 8 mg/kg/day for 94

weeks, the males developed dermatitisand changes in blood formation in the spleen, while females exhibited tremors

and weight loss.

Reproductiveeffects: Rats given 0.40mg/kg/day ofabamectin had increasedstillbirths, decreased pup viability,

decreased lactation, and decreased pupweights. These datasuggest that abamectin may have the potential to cause

reproductiveeffects at highenough doses.

Teratogenic effects: Abamectin producedcleft palate in the offspringof treatedmice and rabbits, but only at doses

that were also toxic to the mothers. There were nobirthdefects in the offspring ofrats given upto 1 mg/kg/day.

Abamectin isunlikely to cause teratogenic effects except at dosestoxic to the mother.

Mutagenic effects: Abamectin does notappear to bemutagenic. Mutagenicity tests in live ratsand micewere

negative. Abamectin wasshown to be nonmutagenic in the Ames test.

Carcinogenic effects: Abamectin isnot carcinogenic in ratsor mice. The ratswere fed dietary doses ofup to 2

mg/kg/day for 24 months, and the micewere up to 8mg/kg/day for 22 months. These represent the maximum

tolerated doses.

Organ toxicity: Animal studiesindicatethat abamectin may affect the nervoussystem.

Fate in humans and animals: Testswith laboratory animalsshow thatingested avermectinB1a is not readily

absorbed intothe bloodstream by mammals and that it israpidly eliminated fromthe body within2 days via the

faeces. Ratsgiven single oral doses of avermectin B1a excreted69to 82% of the dose unchanged in the faeces. The

average half-life of avermectin B1a in rattissue is1.2 days. Lactating goats given daily oral doses for 10 days

excreted89%of the administered avermectin, mainly inthe faeces. Less than 1%wasrecovered in the urine.

Praziquantel is rapidly absorbedafter administrationorally, even when taken witha meal; more than 80% ofa dose

is reportedto be absorbed.Peak plasmaconcentrationsare achieved1 to 3 hours after a dose, but there is a

pronounced first-pass effect and praziquantel undergoes rapid and extensive metabolism in the liver, being

hydroxylatedto metabolitesthat are thought to be inactive. It is distributed into the CSF. The plasma elimination half-

life of praziquantel is 1 to 1.5 hours andthat of the metabolitesabout4 hours.

It is excretedin the urine, mainly asmetabolites, about 80% of the dose being eliminated within 4 days andmore than

90% of this in the first 24 hours.

Section 12 - Ecological Information

Effects on birds: Abamectin is practically nontoxic to birds. The LD

for abamectin in bobwhite quail is>2000 mg/kg.

The dietary LC

is 3102 ppm in bobwhite quail. There were no adverse effectson reproduction when mallard ducks

were fed dietary doses of3, 6, or 12 ppm for 18 weeks.

Effects on aquatic organisms: Abamectin is highly toxic to fish and extremely toxic to aquaticinvertebrates. Its LC

(96-hour) is 0.003 mg/L in rainbow trout, 0.0096 mg/L inbluegillsunfish, 0.015 mg/L in sheepshead minnows, 0.024

mg/L in channel catfish, and 0.042 mg/Lin carp. Its 48-hourLC

in Daphnia magna, a smallfreshwatercrustacean, is

0.003 mg/L.The 96-hourLC

for abamectin is 0.0016 mg/L in pink shrimp, 430 mg/L in eastern oysters,and 153

mg/L in bluecrab. While highly toxic to aquatic organisms, actualconcentrations of abamectinin surface waters

adjacent to treated areas areexpected to be low. Abamectin did not bioaccumulate in bluegillsunfish exposed to

0.099μg/L for 28 days in aflow-through tank. The levels infishwere from 52 to 69 times theambient water

concentration, indicating that abamectin does not accumulate orpersist in fish.

Effects on other organisms: Abamectin is highly toxic to bees, with a 24-hourcontact LC

of 0.002μg/bee and an

oral LD

of 0.009μg/bee.

Breakdown in soil and groundwater: Abamectin israpidly degraded in soil. Atthe soil surface, it is subject to rapid

photodegradation, with half-lives of 8 hours to 1 day reported. Whenapplied to the soilsurface and not shaded, its

soil half-life isabout 1 week. Under dark, aerobic conditions, the soil half-life was 2 weeks to 2 months. Loss of

abamectin fromsoils isthought to be due to microbialdegradation. The rate of degradationwas significantly

decreased under anaerobic conditions. Because abamectin isnearlyinsoluble inwater and has a strong tendency to

bind to soil particles, it is immobile insoil and unlikely toleach orcontaminategroundwater. Compoundsproduced by

the degradation of abamectin are also immobileandunlikely to contaminate groundwater.

Breakdown inwater: Abamectin israpidly degradedin water. After initial distribution, its half-life in artificialpond

waterwas 4 days. Its half-life in pond sediment was2 to 4weeks.It undergoesrapid photodegradation, with a half-life

of 12 hours inwater. Whentested at pHlevels common tosurface and groundwater (pH 5, 7, and 9), abamectin did

not hydrolyze.

Breakdown invegetation: Plants do not absorb abamectin fromthe soil.Abamectin issubject to rapid degradation

whenpresent as a thin film, as on treatedleaf surfaces.Under laboratory conditions and in the presence oflight, its

half-life as a thin film was 4to 6 hours.

Praziquantel: no data available.
