HEALTH EFFECTS

ACUTE EFFECTS

No adverse health effects are expected if the product is handled in accordance with this Material Safety Data

Sheet and the product label.

SWALLOWED

Slightly toxic.

EYE

May cause irritation.

SKIN

Mildly irritating to skin.

If substantial skin contact occurs it could cause facial numbness.

INHALED

Little inhalation hazard if used in the correct manner.

CHRONIC EFFECTS

Animal studies indicate repeated or prolonged exposure to alpha-cypermethrin can act on the nervous system and

produce excitatory effects predominantly on the sensory nerve endings. Chronic feeding studies on animals do not

indicate any cumulative toxicity and show that the compound is neither a carcinogen nor a teratogen.

FIRST AID

If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre. Telephone 131126 Australia-wide.

SWALLOWED

If more than 15 minutes from a hospital, induce vomiting preferably using Ipecac Syrup (APF).

EYE

Hold eyes open, flood with water for 15 minutes and see a doctor.

SKIN

Remove contaminated clothing and wash skin thoroughly with soap and water.

INHALED

Inhalation is not normally harmful.

ADVICE TO DOCTOR

FASTAC ULV contains alpha-cypermethrin a synthetic pyrethroid. Treat symptomatically. If indicated, lavage

with cuffed tube.

ENGINEERING CONTROLS

Do not inhale spray mist.

PERSONAL PROTECTION

Harmful if swallowed. Will irritate the eyes and skin. Facial skin contact may cause temporary facial numbness.

Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Avoid inhaling spray mist. When preparing spray wear cotton overalls buttoned

to the neck and wrist, washable hat, elbow length PVC gloves and face shield or goggles. If product in eyes wash

it out immediately with water. After use and before eating, drinking or smoking, wash hands, arms & face

thoroughly with soap and water. After each day's use wash contaminated clothing, gloves and face shield or

goggles.

SAFE HANDLING INFORMATION

STORAGE AND TRANSPORT

Store in the closed, original container in a well ventilated and cool as possible, separate building or room away

from children, animals and unauthorized persons. Store away from food, foodstuffs, drink or clothing. Store

separately from herbicides. Do not store for long periods in direct sunlight.

Ensure containers are correctly labelled and securely sealed.

Not classified as a dangerous substance for transport purposes.

Eye-wash and washing facilities must be readily available.

For decontaminating clothes and equipment have soda ash (sodium carbonate) on hand and for decontaminating

and disposing spills have lime, soda ash, absorbent material and open head drums on hand.

SPILLS AND DISPOSAL

Clear area of all unprotected personnel. Wear full protective equipment including breathing apparatus. Stop leak if

safe to do so by manoeuvring the container. Decant leaking container into a clean empty drum remote from the

storage area and label. If leaking container can be repacked, contact Cyanamid Agriculture Pty. Limited, so that

an overdrum and transport for return to a nominated Cyanamid location can be arranged.

Do not flush to drains or sewers. Do not contaminate streams, rivers or water courses.

MSDS -FASTAC ULV INSECTICIDE

Absorb spill in lime or wet area with 5% soda ash (sodium carbonate) solution and absorb on sand, earth or non-

combustible absorbent material. Place material in open top drum, clean up with small amount of detergent and

water, absorb and place in drum. Scatter lime over the area and leave for 1 hour. Decompose contaminated

absorbent and surplus material with 5% soda ash solution. Leave in a safe place for one month. Seal drum and

bury in an area approved by the local waste disposal authority.

Soak protective equipment in 5% soda ash solution for at least 24 hours. Rinse and dry. Wash overalls.

Drain empty container well into spray vat. Triple rinse empty container with a 1:1 mixture of 5% caustic soda

solution and methylated spirits. Dispose of rinsate with empty container. Puncture top, bottom and sides of

empty container, then crush and take to an approved landfill or bury under at least 500 mm of soil in a non-crop,

non-pasture area away from water sources or homes.

FIRE/EXPLOSION HAZARD

Decomposition may give rise to toxic and noxious fumes. Alcohol resistant foam, carbon dioxide or dry chemical

extinguishers required. Ensure respiratory equipment is available.

Evacuate immediate area. Advise Fire Brigade of nature of hazard. Wear full protective equipment, including

breathing apparatus. Remove drums from site of fire, if possible, as overheating may cause some of the drums to

explode. Cool surrounding containers with a fine water spray.

Avoid contact of water with material as toxic run-off will form. In this event, consideration should be given to

allowing the fire to burn out. Contain run-off.

OTHER INFORMATION

PROTECTION OF LIVESTOCK

Dangerous to bees. Do NOT spray on any plants in flower while bees are foraging.

PROTECTION OF WILDLIFE, FISH, CRUSTACEANS AND ENVIRONMENT

Dangerous to fish and freshwater crustaceans such as yabbies. Do NOT contaminate fish ponds, drains,

rivers or streams with the product or used containers. Drift and run-off from treated areas may be hazardous to

fish or crustaceans in adjacent sites.
