DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Restraints: DO

NOT use on canola grown as a forage crop

DO NOT use on dual-use canola prior to grazing

DO NOT apply to crops under visible stress.

DO NOT apply if wind speed is less than 3km and more than 20km per hour or under

conditions where temperature inversions may occur

DO NOT spray any plants in flower while bees are actively foraging

As earlier larval stages are easier to control, DO NOT

target larvae larger than 5 mm (very small to small).

Large larvae and larvae feeding within bolls and

squares may not be controlled. Larvae must feed on

treated areas in order to achieve effective control.

Where high egg lays occur the addition of an ovicide is

recommended. Use the lower rate on light infestations.

Make no more than 4 applications per season.

AFFIRM should be used according to the cotton Best

Management Practices Manual.

Apply to developing Green Mind populations that are

predominantly nymphs. Maximum effect is not

achieved until 5 to 7 days after application. Use the

higher rate on heavier populations.

Applications of AFFIRM as outlined above for Heliothis

will reduce the rate of mite development in treated

recommendations based on crop growth stage.

Use rates towards the lower end of the range to control

threshold level populations when crop growth stage or

insect activity does not favour rapid population

development.

Use the higher rate to control threshold level

populations when conditions favour rapid crop or pest

population development.

Sample crops twice a week after application to

determine if a second application is required.

Make no more than 2 applications per season. If

further applications are necessary, rotate to an

approved product from a different MOA group.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

Mixing

Add the required amount of AFFIRM to a partly filled spray tank, and then add the remainder of the water.

Application

To be effective AFFIRM requires thorough spray coverage. Ensure that equipment is properly calibrated to

give an even distribution at the correct volume.

Ground Application:

Cotton:

Apply in at least 80 L spray/ha

Canola:

Apply in at least 100 L spray/ha

Pulses:

Apply in at least 80 to 100 L spray/ha depending on the crop canopy size. Use at least 80 L spray/ha

for crops with lower canopy size eg Lentils, and 100 L spray/ha for crops with higher canopy size eg

Chickpeas.

Air Application:

Apply in at least 20 L spray/ha

Compatibility

AFFIRM is compatible with Ovasyn* EC. As formulations of other manufacturer's products are beyond the

control of Syngenta, and the quality of water may vary with location, all mixtures should be tested prior to

mixing commercial quantities.

Insecticide Resistance Warning

GROUP

6

INSECTICIDE

For insecticide resistance management AFFIRM INSECTICIDE is a Group 6 insecticide. Some naturally

occurring insect biotypes resistant to AFFIRM and other Group 6 insecticides may exist through normal

genetic variability in any insect population. The resistant individuals can eventually dominate the insect

population if AFFIRM and other Group 6insecticides are used repeatedly. The effectiveness of AFFIRM on

resistant individuals could be significantly reduced. Since occurrence of resistant individuals is difficult to

detect prior to use Syngenta Australia Pty Ltd accepts no liability for any losses that may result from failure of

AFFIRM to control resistant insects. AFFIRM may be subject to specific resistance management strategies.

For further information contact your supplier, Syngenta representative or local agricultural department

agronomist.

PRECAUTION

Human flagging is not supported unless flaggers are protected by engineering controls such as vehicles with

cabs.

Re-entry Period

DO NOT allow entry into treated areas for 12 hours after treatment. When prior entry is necessary, wear

cotton overalls buttoned to the neck and wrist and chemical resistant gloves.

PROTECTION OF WILDLIFE, FISH, CRUSTACEANS AND ENVIRONMENT

Dangerous to fish and other aquatic organisms. DO NOT contaminate streams, rivers or waterways with the

chemical or used containers. DO NOT apply under weather conditions or from spraying equipment that may

cause spray to drift from the target area. A spray drift minimisation strategy should be employed at all times

when aerially applying sprays to, or near, sensitive areas. The strategy envisaged is exemplified by the

cotton industry's Best Management Practice Manual.

PROTECTION OF LIVESTOCK

BEES

Highly toxic to bees. Will kill bees foraging in the crop to be treated or in hives which are oversprayed or

reached by spray drift. Residues may remain toxic to bees for several days after application. DO NOT spray

any plants in flower while bees are foraging. Before spraying, notify beekeepers to move hives to a safe

location with an untreated source of nectar, if there is potential for managed bees to be affected by the spray

or spray drift.

Section 4: FIRST AID MEASURES

Description of Necessary

First Aid Measures:

In case of poisoning by any exposure route contact a doctor or

Poisons Information Centre on 131 126.

Have the product label or SDS with you when calling or going for

treatment.

Ingestion:

If swallowed, seek medical advice immediately and

show this container or label.

Do NOT induce vomiting.

Eye contact:

Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under

the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes.

Remove contact lenses.

Immediate medical attention is required.

Skin contact:

Take off all contaminated clothing immediately.

Wash off immediately with plenty of water.

If skin irritation persists, call a physician.

Wash contaminated clothing before re-use.

Inhalation:

Remove to fresh air. If breathing is irregular or

stopped, administer artificial respiration. Keep

patient warm and at rest. Call a physician or Poison

Information Centre immediately.

Poisoning Symptoms:

Lack of coordination

Tremors

Dilated pupils

Medical Advice:

This material is believed to enhance GABA activity in animals.

It is probably wise to avoid drugs that enhance GABA activity

(barbiturates, benzodiaziphines, valproic acid) in patients with

potentially toxic mectin exposure.

Toxicity can be minimised by early administration of chemical

absorbents (e.g. activated charcoal).

If toxicity from exposure has progressed to cause severe vomiting,

the extent of resultant fluid and electrolyte imbalance should be

gauged.

Appropriate supportive parenteral fluid replacement therapy should

be given, along with other required supportive measures as indicated

by clinical signs, symptoms and measurements.

Section 5: FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

Suitable Extinguishing Media:

Small fires

Use water spray, alcohol-resistant foam, dry chemical or carbon

dioxide. Do not use a solid water stream as it may scatter and

spread fire.

Large fires

Use alcohol-resistant foam or water spray. Do not use a solid

water stream as it may scatter and spread fire.

Hazards from Combustion

Products:

As the product contains combustible organic components, fire will

produce dense black smoke containing hazardous products of

combustion (see Section 10). Combustion or thermal

decomposition will evolve toxic and irritant vapours. Exposure to

decomposition products may be a hazard to health.

Special Protective Precautions

and Equipment for Fire

Fighters:

Wear protective clothing and self-contained breathing apparatus.

Do not allow run-off from fire fighting to enter drains or water

courses. Cool closed containers exposed to fire with water spray.

Methods and Materials for

Containment and Clean Up:

Procedure for spill:

Keep all bystanders away.

Wear full length clothing and PVC gloves.

Reposition any leaking containers so as to minimise further

leakage.

Dam and absorb spill with an absorbent material (e.g. sand

or soil).

Shovel the absorbed spill into drums.

Disposal of the absorbed material will depend upon the

extent of the spill.

For quantities up to 50L of product bury in a secure

landfill site.
