A Danish registry study has examined if the cancer incidence rate is higher among people treated with the blood pressure lowering medicine Valsartan, which due to the risk of contamination was recalled from the market in July 2018. The study concludes that no increased cancer incidence can be seen at present.

Apricot kernels pose a risk of cyanide poisoning

A familiar ingredient for jam-makers, apricot kernels are increasingly being consumed as a natural remedy for their claimed "anti-cancer" properties. While one kernel added to perfume several jars of jam is not a problem, ingesting them in large quantities exposes consumers to the risk of cyanide poisoning. ANSES has identified several cases of apricot kernel poisoning in France through its toxicovigilance scheme, and encourages consumers to exercise caution.

Kraft Heinz Voluntarily Recalls Taco Bell Salsa Con Queso Mild Cheese Dip Distributed to Retailers

As a precaution, approximately 7,000 cases of Taco Bell Salsa Con Queso Mild Cheese Dip are being voluntarily recalled because the affected product is showing signs of product separation which can lead to a potential health hazard. This could create conditions that could allow for the growth of Clostridium botulinum (C. botulinum), a bacterium which can cause life-threatening illness or death. Consumers are warned not to use the product even if it does not look or smell spoiled.

Cases of allergies associated with the consumption of food supplements are regularly reported to ANSES under its nutrivigilance scheme. Recently, severe allergies following the consumption of food supplements containing hive products (royal jelly, propolis) and pollen have been reported. ANSES reminds consumers that people who are allergic to pollen can potentially be at risk from allergies when consuming foods and food supplements containing products of the beehive.

CDC reports that there are 10 confirmed cases of infection caused by bacteria within the Burkholderia cepacia complex, also commonly called B. cepacia, in three states: California (2), Pennsylvania (7), and New Jersey (1). These patients were already hospitalized for acute conditions and acquired the infections while hospitalized. The infections have been linked to the Medline product, Remedy Essentials No-Rinse Cleansing Foam.
